RE:Area 9 Kings
Trolled yesterday at Possession from about 5:45 to 8 PM with no luck. Talk to a few others as they trolled within shouting distance and didn't hear anything positive. Heard that there was sporadic action on Wednesday. Going out again on Sat. morning. Hopefully with better results.

RE:Area 9 Kings
Just heard from some other guys that said about the same thing. SLOW SLOW, they had about a 20 min bite going and nothing else. Im heading over to fish it Wed-Sun, so hopefully we can get this action picking up!
RE:Area 9 Kings
I'll be jiggin tomorrow, hope to have something to report back with. Sounds pretty slow out there so far - good for everyone who wants the season to last I guess.
RE:Area 9 Kings
We were out at Jeff's Head trolling on Friday and didn't get much, just a few small ones. Didn't see or hear of a keeper caught when we were out there.
RE:Area 9 Kings
The checker at the 10th Street boat launch in Everett said they had counted 10 fish by noon on Thursday July 17th when I spoke with him. I don't think there were very many fishermen / women out there that morning but 10 isn't very many fish.
An Everett Herald Quote: “Down at Jefferson Head, working on Chinook headed for south Sound rivers, Gary Krein had hooked four kings by 10 a.m., released one wild fish and kept three of hatchery origin -- one about 18 pounds and two in the 12- to 14-pound range.” “He said calls to friends fishing Possession Bar Wednesday morning elicited the same results Kester reported -- no bait showing, and few Chinook (at least early).”
Both of these folks quoted in the Herald are salmon charter captains so I am not sure how accurate their info is. The “fishing was productive” statement could be an advertisement ploy. Just a thought.
NOTE: When we were out crabbing south of Hat Island on Thursday morning the 17th, there were bait fish everywhere showing on the fish finder and surfacing. I’m hoping the fishery heats up here soon. I hope to go out next Thursday to try my luck in 8-2.

RE:Area 9 Kings
Slow over the weekend....For kings that is. But a salmon was caught every time out, and I don't mean shakers. Silvers were in THICK, and those 5-6 lb silvers are just awesome on the bbq.
Here's the fishing that we did:
Thursday PM 8pm to 10pm: 1 king, just over 7 lbs. Hatchery, real fat guy...Kept it.
Friday PM 7pm to 9pm: 1 silver, around 5 lbs. Kept
Saturday AM: 5am to 8am: Was our real good outing. We worked deeper water from 5am to 6:30. Nothing. Went back in shallower, trolled on a line in about 40-60 feet of water when the other boats and where we usually fish (80-120ft) were still not producing any fish and we were slamming the silvers. Every pass on this small little shelf where it got to be about 35-40 feet right in front of our friends house yielded a silver or a hit. They were biting pretty light, LOTS of hits, pulling the line outta the clip but nothing on it. We landed about 6 though from 6:30am to 8am, kept the 2 biggest (5-6lbers) Also released two Blackmouth, not big at all, one was about 20", the other at about 22"/
Saturday midday: 3pm to 4pm: Went out by myself, figured I'd switch it up and brought out my 9' ML spinning rod. Stuck a 5 inch Silver Horde plug and fished it with no flasher, hoping I could fish it deep and avoid the flounder/shakers...Got a nice 6-7lb native silver in about 2 minutes out there, lots of fun on 8lb test and a pretty light action rod and no flasher. Had one other hit, and again, I was working that shallow line.
Saturday PM 7pm to 9pm: One decent silver at 5lbs, kept. Lots of bait, lots of active shakers like all the other times we went out, but could only scrap one.
Most fish caught on a coho killer, green/glow pattern. A few off green/glow coyotes, nothing off Ace Hi Flys or Cop Car Coyotes, so we stuck with Coho Killers for the most of the time.
Word is to head NORTH for kings. I hear they are doing good up on Midchannel Bank, thats where the Salmon U. guys have been doing real well over the last few days.
Sounds like its slow out there with a few decent reports, lets hope the quota will last a week or two for these big kings to roll through...Where'd these silvers come from? Not that I'm complaining or anything, but darn they were everywhere...

RE:Area 9 Kings
Sweet Kafelafish! Great lookn fish. And great summary of your time on the water this last weekend. You have me anxious to get out and tag some Kings before we all get shut down and that quota is met.
Anyone hear or know of the count so far?

I'd say we haven't pushed 2,000 FOR SURE, and likely not 1,000....
Theres fish to be had when you can find one at the right time, but for now, it's just slow. Which is good and bad, bad that fishing is slow but this quota will extend a lot longer. I got my fingers crossed that we can get two more weekends outta it.
fishnislife: Even if we can't get out before that quota is filled, the Coho are in and it wouldn't kill me to CnR some big kings and keep the Coho....
Good luck out there to everyone who goes out. Bait is small, match it up with Coho killers or real thin squid. Just went to Joes and reloaded my Coho Killer stock, green/glow & purple back/silver side seem to be what they are biting on.....

RE:Area 9 Kings
Oops. Did some searching on some other local forums and found this:
Area 9 thru 7/20 - 1,052 Kings retained
Area 10 thru 7/20 - 248 Kings retained
Total retained thru 7/20 - 1,300
Looks like we have time, I just hope the quota doesn't get filled up in the northern part of 9 where they are doing well, would like to see them move down and still have it be open....
Wouldn't mind this fishery starting a week or two later next year. Early to mid August was phenomenal for the kings last year, but of course it was closed by then....
At least the coho are around....

RE:Area 9 Kings
Yeah it would be nice if they started the season a few weeks later or just kept it open for a month or two but the wdfw would never let anyone sit there in area 9 and 10 fish the prime times for the fisheries for kings nowadays.
RE:Area 9 Kings
Anyone having any luck out there????
I'm hearing spotty reports, a few folks are getting some kings in the right time/right place, word is they are still doing well for them up around Neah Bay, so it could be a while until our big push comes through.
I've only got one king so far this year, lots of silvers though for me...

RE:Area 9 Kings
Tomorrow is the last day for A9, I believe Area 10 as well. Anyone else going to be out there? I enjoy reading other members reports, WL sorta lacks in the saltwater department, but I love seeing other members reports....
I'm planning on giving the evening slack a run, hoping to pull a king or two into the boat tomorrow....Then back to targeting them fiesty Coho for the rest of the weekend...
