i agree. i'd personally use a float probably...but be ready to try anything. don't expect fish, but if you nab one that will be awesome...kavykid2k6 wrote:i would vote for the skagit, stilly hasent really had anything really movin through it, i would try the cascade down low too

The North Fork Stilly is fly fishing only this time of year. Below the forks (the mainstem Stilly) is selective gear only, this time of year. Bottom line, this is not the river that I would hit for steelhead this time of year.fishingmachine wrote:Oh so would anyone suggest fishing the stilly or skagit for steelhead and what would your top tactic be

I heard the same thing....fishing is slow up there on those rivers. The cowlitz is producing some steelies though. If you can get on a boat I would boondogg for them. If your on shore then bobber.

Fishingmachine - I hit the Stilly this afternoon (Monday)to check it out. Didn't locate any steelhead as they apparently haven't made it that high in the river yet as it is still cold and running a little high. Its still getting some spring run off. I did cast flys at the Fortsons Mill Hole and the little Rainbows were rising pretty good late evening. I fished form 7 until 8:30 and netted 14 about 8 to 10 inches. All were released. Almost a strike every cast but nothing of any size. The little buggers are fun to C&R though. I never saw another angler on the river so it is probably pretty slow.

Cascade when flows are good. Get ready for battle in tweakerville USA. Good fishing though!

ktk your alive! havent heard from ya in a while
i talked to my buddie in darrington and he said a couple of fish are bein caught in the skagit but you have to fish hard for them, the dollies are starting to hit everything you throw at them but the are tucked up under stuff and always on the wrong side of the river.
stilly sucks for steelhead, i can tell you that right now, not enough spots for them to sit so the just hual fanny up the river and the forskin hole is about the only good place to catch fish on that river for steelhead.
