They actually aren't endangered - they are protected.

I understand your distaste and your anger, Dave.
It reminds me of the same mentality that a man has that shoots a hundred carp in a night with a bow, from a boat and just lets them sink to the bottom or float on the top...does not matter. Just killing for the sake of killing.

What a waste!!!

Yep. Well said. This thread is over. What needed to be said has been said. We can all agree taking the law into our own hands is not the right thing to do, and we all want the sea lions out from our dams and we all want them to stop eating our salmon, steelies, and SRC's. Change cannot happen fast enough regarding this issue.

You know, after seeing them destroy 10 and 12 foot sturgeon for fun, I don't feel sorry for the sea lions one bit. Could care less if only one was on the "special list." Sealions destroy their weight in fish every day. I wish they would put more pens up so we could all have a chance to kill one. Raffle off sealion tags for fishery enhancement. :-({|=

By the way, they don't strip the bellies out of the fish they strip the row. As long as there are lots of fish around that is all they are after. Use to watch them in Alaska doing it to Pollack.

Kind of reminds me of bears feasting on salmon. If theres enough, they only eat the essentials and move on to the next one.

They also GORGE on sturgeon too. Man they have really took a dent out of that population...to bad...

Anyone know how many sea lions are down there by the dam? 50, 100, 150, 200? How many are we talking about...I'm glad some of them are going, but disheartened to hear it came "this way."

From what I hear, enough in the river and all the way up to the dam that you lose count....Put it this way, the 80 they were going to kill/remove wasn't very much at all...

Paper this morning reported HSUS, WDFW and Feds agreed to put sea lion relocation and lethal removal (shooting) off until 2009.

On Kiro7 News I heard that they aren't 100% certain that they were actually shot...

If they were in fact not shot and died of some natural cause, it's going to make a lot of people look real dumb. Sounds like the media jumped to conclusion too quick, and thus made other people jump to their own conclusions. We need the facts here. KTK

Newspapers reported zen leecher said "he would be shocked if reporters jumped to wrong assumptions about the deaths of 7 sea lions". He further asked for a full accounting of their demise(s), respectively.

Everybody wants to be first with the reporting. Myself, I would assume 6 dead sea lions in two traps were shot...but before I declared that I would want to be 100% certain.

There were two stroies in this evening's news about the Columbia River salmon problems.

The first, they are no sure why the sealions died in the cage because they have found no apparent bullet holes (too bad) and they found a floater at the Interstate bridge.

The second story was about the kick off of the 2008 "Northern Pikeminnow" Bounty Program. Wher anglers are paid between $4 and $8 for every squawfish they catch and turn in. Why? Because they kill salmon smolts.

My idea, pay anglers $4 to $8 for every sealion they catch and turn in!!!

Kxly 4 here in Spokane is reporting that the sealions where not shot, that they have punture wounds from fighting with other sealions or something they think, but definitly not gun shot wounds, they reported there not sure if the puncture wounds where the cause of death or not.

It was my mechanical sealion killing machine I built in science class, yeah that what it was. :-$
