Fishing Green Lake

Hey All,

Tried fishing Green Lake last night by the stadium in the south west side of the lake. Fished from 8pm to 11pm and didn't get one bite. Was trying for catfish using worms and catfish nuggets. I saw tons of carp and a few fish jumping.

Does anyone know a good spot to fish at night this time of year? I've heard the lake holds a decent amount of channel and brown bull cats. Green Lakes seem to be the only lake around Seattle to night fish.

Do you have to fish lakes? I prefer to fish either from a dock in salt water for cod, squid, crab, shrimp. you just never realy know what your going to catch. Well I guess from the sound of it there realy not much to catch in the sound any more. Or You can fish the only river on the west coast that you can fish for sturgeon at nite time, the Chehalis. Thats alot of fun.

Fishing's a little slow right now, and the warmwater fish are still pretty inactive. Hang in there, temps are getting higher and lakes are getting warmer.

I grew up fishing Green Lake and my dad who is now 70 fished it as a kid for many years and caught lots of trout. We always fished the south side of the lake in a spot where there is a small metal like water shed or water outlet looking thing at the shoreline. It’s not very big but is visible from the street. It had a cement base maybe 4X4X2’ tall with a small metal object on top of it. Sorry, I can’t describe it any better. It’s been forever ago. It is located west of Spuds fish and chips which has also been there forever. It was always good trout fishing from there and in the evening before dark the trout were always rising and a bobber and a worm about 3 feet under the bobber did the trick. As for night fishing, I fished the Edmonds public pier for cod, perch, and flounder and it used to be very productive. If you live further south of Edmonds, you can fish Shilshole Bay. There is a large dock at the south end of the marina that goes straight out towards the sound, and then to the left. It’s a huge dock and I used to fish that at night and caught cod, flounder, and perch. The only issue in saltwater here the season for cod is short. Ling cod season is May – June 15th and is closed for True cod. Surfperch however is open year round and you are allowed 10 per day. Back when we were kids it was open year round and the limit was like 5 lings or true cod per day. Not anymore! I am sure there are south west WA lakes that hold cats. I just don’t know where they are. Good luck and good fishin.

IM NOT FAMALIAR WITH ANY CAT-HOLDING LAKES OVER HERE, BUT, I TARGET THEM REGULARLY FROM JUNE TO OCTOBER ON THE LOWER YAKIMA RIVER (3-20 LB.'ERS), AND, ALSO ABOVE ICE HARBOR DAM ON THE SNAKE. I WAIT FOR THE WATERDOGS TO COME INTO SEASON, THEN, I TRY TO FILL-UP MY FREEZER, AS WELL AS, MY NEIGHBORS FREEZER EVERY CHANCE I GET. IF YOU EVER GET TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MOUNTAINS PM ME, AND, I WILL GIVE YOU 2 HOTSPOTS. I SHOWED DBAKER AND B. HOLLOWAY LAST YEAR, I DONT KNOW ABOUT DUSTY, BUT, BOBBY HAS BEEN BACK TO THOSE 2 SPOTS NUMEROUS TIMES, AND SCORED. THESE ARE BLUE AND CHANNEL'S.

Last summer I sent an email to Friends Of GreenLake, asking about musky in the lake (they stocked it with them and cats at one time). I tried to find the response, but I must have deleted it.

Basically he said it had been quite a few years since they have put anything in Greenlake except trout. As far as Musky, the last time they stocked it was about as long ago as the lifespan for the musky, so they are most likely all gone. There might be a couple channel cats left, but he didn't think there was too many - I myself have only heard of two being caught in the last few years (but they were BIG) and I have never heard of bullhead cats being in there (that doesn't mean they aren't). There are some nice brown trout in there and as you saw, plenty of carp.

As far as freshwater fishing at night, in the city, I think pretty much all of the parks around close at like 10 or 11pm (or "dusk"). Most all of the bank/dock fishing I have done there has been from where you were around the south end of the lake. Hope this helps!

when it warms up a bit you can get cats in the arboretum of Lake wa.

Thanks for the input all! I guess I'll just have to wait for warmer weather to catch anything but I'm still gonna try... hehe

Just getting my line wet is enough to get me started this year. I play on trying different spots on Green Lake and around Seward Park. I think I'll try Seward Park tonight. It opens pretty late.

Btw... Fishing just about anywhere on the sound with get you plenty of action year round if you have a boat. Lots of sole and dog fish/sharks to fight.
