Downrigger ball Weight?

What size downrigger ball/weight do you guys use in the Puget Sound? I current have some 7 1/2 weights but they seem to be pretty light for the sound. I have a pair of scotty's manual downriggers with 24" boom that I'm using.

Prob 12. I'm still using 10's left over from the days before I bought electric DRs. Mostly, because I'm too cheap to buy new 12's. How much do new 12's cost anyway?

Certainly 12 lb.ers are better than you 7-8 lb ball, but I wouldn’t cancel fishing just because of the ball weight.
Depending on how your sonar is set up, at least with mine, I can see the ball, and regardless of how much blow back I have, I can still know where the ball is located.
But I wouldnt fish like that every time.

The day will go on if you loose your 12 pound weights, you'll still have your 7.5's, which will work fair.
