How do you get where you are going?

gpc’s post about the new site with the lake maps came at a time when I am thinking about new places to go.

I was looking at a couple of "Fishing Washington" books last night and checking my Washington Gazetteer and I found a couple of places to fish very close to my home I did not know about. There is Whipple Creek that used to be stocked with browns, but they are no longer...15 minutes from my house. There is Burnt Bridge Creek just 5 minutes from my house that I was told had NO fish and now I find out that there are suckers and carp in it!

Looks like I may have to go fishing real soon.

Does anyone else ruminate over maps and books to find places to go or do you just have places you always go and know?

Washinton Fishing by Terry Rudnick. Published by Foghorn outdoors. It's how I found a couple very nice lakes around my house.

Hey, that is one of the books I was looking at. It is a few years old, but the new one costs alot so I cheaped out and bought a used one a few years old. Still gives me good ideas on where to go.

I used to look at google earth and google maps, but knew of most bodies of water that surrounded the eastside area, and I knew of all the ones I fish so I don't exactly dig out lakes out of maps anymore and fish them. I already found a bunch to fish I guess....

This book is the greates book of all time. I really need to get a new one because mine is really beat up. I have the read the entire book a few times and everytime I go to a lake I re read what it says for the lake. This site has really put me on fish, I read every report that comes in. There is another WA forum that I check reports on regulary. Google earth really helps and mapquest. Just type in your address and the lake you want to fish it works 90% of the time. Tacoma news tribune has good fishing reports as well.

I have my usual haunts, but if I have the time I always like to check out new places. My main means of info (like many others) is Google, books, maps (like greentrails & metskers), and word of mouth.

That's how I found this site. Was looking for lakes in Washington. I still use an old book by Stan Jones that I've had sinece the 80's and Terry Rudnick's book for general references.

Thats funny. Now that you mention it thats how I found this site as well. I found it about 4 years ago, thought it was GREAT, forgot about it, then 2 years ago I re found it.

Washington Fishing is my bible. I look at that book more than any other. If anyone is fishing Washington without Terry Rudnick's book, then you are fishing blind. Plus, I would say the same about this site. Just reading reports and going through the county lists of lakes I have discovered many new places. With these two things, I think anyone can do well fishing around here.

I used that book religiously in the beginning, putting tabs in it and highlighting lakes that had an interest in. I found this site when I was looking for more info on particular lakes. This book pretty much lives in my gear bag.

Without it, I might have actually had to ask directions to find the boat launch at Beaver...

This may be one of the greatest details contained within this book; the access points to Washington lakes and their condition. This is a boon when it comes to actually deciding where to go, what to bring, and how to go about getting there.

I use the De Lorme maps.Great maps with a world of information.Theres a section on Parks and all their amenities.It shows boat launces and clamming beaches.Also shows up to date logging roads and jeep trails.Those are great for 4x4 ing into quiet unspoiled lakes and streams.I keep it in my truck at all times.I also have "Rivers in Washington Book"by Amato.Good stuff and great reading .

Offers great fishing reports on area lakes and rivers. gpc was right on with this site, very helpful for new comers and veterans alike. Great site, although sometimes I question the validity of some reports, but it is very helpful, nonetheless.
