We will be doing a family camp at Black lake on the 18th of this month. Can you guys fill me in on the fishing prospects at Black Lake in Olympia? Have a boat, but not sure I want to trailer it there unless the fishing is worth it. Maybe bank with the grand kids if that will work.
Thanks

Black lake is an excellent fishery. One of the best small mouth lakes around. Also plenty of large mouth. It is stocked with thousands of trout every year, also decent for crappie, perch, and catfish.

Black lake is a good fishery - would suggest to bring your boat. Just make sure you fish it early this time of year - a lot of skiers and jet skiers if the weather is nice. From the public boat launch;
If early am and you want trout head to the left and fish about 100 ft or so from the shore trolling with wedding rings and worms, small split shot about 50 or so ft back. Any place trolling along the shore is usually good but this is a good place to start. Once you hit the end you will see lily pads - this is a good place for panfish.
Once the lake gets busier head down to the far end of the lake (to the far right from the launch). Here you'll see logs sticking out of the water and buoys. This is a good place to troll for trout and fish for small mouths. Because of the logs skiers and jet skiers stay away from here - lake is a little calmer.
Fished this area a couple of weeks ago and caught some nice holdover trout and a some nice small mouths while trolling.
Forgot to mention while your heading down to the far right troll on the right side of the lake (100 or so ft from shore) this usually produces some trout.
Hope this helps.

The launch is the WDFW one. Good luck.
