Re: 2017 Pike tally
I put 7 more pike in the boat today bringing me to 153 for the year. Spinnerbaits did the trick along with a big hammer swim bait behind a chatter bait blade. FYI all fish were caught in water temps of 73 degrees and higher. Warmest was caught at 76 degrees. Don't be scared to fish that warm water. They're still in there, you just gotta make em bite.

Re: 2017 Pike tally
Got a few more Pike tonite, the bite was really tuff. I had 4 bites from pike and landed 2, my big fish was 8.5 lbs. Chris had 3 bites and landed 1 but it was a new PB for him at 8.2 lbs. . Tim had a fish on but didn't land it. We saw hundreds of Small mouth there, (and a few pike). The Smallies were not interested in any of the moving baits, so Chris tied on a Sink-N-Fool and got 1. I had a big LM on a spinnerbait that threw the hook that was how the trip went. With these 2 puts me at 56 for the year. Water temps were 80 deg. so I can't figure out why the smallies or pike would still be in there.
Re: 2017 Pike tally
Rick,
Back in the days when the POR was a GREAT place to fish for pike, I would target them with senkos when the water was warm, and they loved them. I would think your sinkin fools would be a great bait to throw at the pike. Pike larger than about 27-28" slow down and get a bit lethargic in warm water just like they do in cold water. If I was you, I'd throw them sinkin fools at em and see what happens. My old method on the POR was to let the senko drift all the way to the bottom, then give it a slow lifting movement to get them to hit. I lost a lot of baits back then, before I started using the heavier fluorocarbon leaders.

Hey Rick, I would think you would be running out of your old P.O. River pike pics by now. ha. That's the only place and time that those kind of pike up to 19 lbs would be coming from. You can fuzz up the background but I can tell from the color of the water where they were taken!!!

Re: 2017 Pike tally
So my honey hole has officially dried up. No fish seen or had any bites my last 2 trips so I'm looking for a new place to fish that I can get to with my little 12 ft bass boat. It only does 7mph top speed so I need a place to fish that is not more then 2 miles from the launch and doesn't get big waves. Any suggestions? The only place I know to go is Hayden which sucks this time of year or the Chain lakes and that is a very long drive for me.
Re: 2017 Pike tally
Hey Fish N Fool, I sent you an email.
I fished a new spot to me on Saturday and managed only one fish but I think it's going to be a good location for more fish. One more brings me to 154 for the year. The one I got was a nice fat 34 1/2"er that weighed in at 12 pounds. She put up an amazing fight stripping line three different times. It was great to put one in the boat in a new location on an entirely new body of water for me. Hopefully this turns out to be a good location for the future. It would be nice to fish somewhere besides Cda lake all the time. However, I do love those Cda pike
I edited this post because the "F N Fool" didn't sound good. I meant no offense, I was just trying to abbreviate.

Re: 2017 Pike tally
I got one more Pike tonite at a new area that I had fished near it before, but not that same area. Fished it hard for 5 hours and only managed 1 Pike. Saw some good looking water and the right depth but it didnt seam to hold any fish that wanted to bite at least. Here is the one I got a 27" er that was about 6 lbs. I'd say. That brings me to 57 on the year

Re: 2017 Pike tally
Took my niece out last nite to try to get her first pike ever. We got the the river about 5; 30PM or so finally. I was fishing my favorite sunny day bait, a blue chrome glide bait I had painted up. As I can't buy that color anymore. I had I really nice one on on my 3rd cast that was about a 15 lbr. Had it on for about 30 seconds and it was gone.. At the same time I lost the fish my wife called on the phone and while looking for the phone I reeled my bait up to the guide and the snap popped open and the bait fell off without me knowing it so I lost my best bait! I cried a little and switched to my second favorite gold plated perch colored glide bait which I had also painted and about 15 casts later I hooked a 8 lb fish I lost it as well as it didn't get a hook into it. My niece had not had a hit on the spinnerbait I had rigged her up with so I took the Perch glide bait off my rod and let her use it so she could hopefully get hooked up. She fished it about a half an hour before she got hooked up with this nice 8 lb fish . There were a ton of these weird sucker fish on the surface at dusk and I snagged one of the ugly critters . After that the pike bite seemed to fade. I did get a bite from a nice smallie next to the boat but missed that one as well So the only fish I managed to boat was the ugly sucker thing. It was all worth it to get my neice her first pike ever and the biggest fish she had ever caught. Now she wants to catch a Muskie. lol Stay tuned.

Re: 2017 Pike tally
Denise and I got out yesterday and went out for Musky. Got my very first Musky on a spinnerbait and Denise missed a even bigger one at the boat.
Re: 2017 Pike tally
I had a 6 fish day on Cda yesterday, bringing me to 160 for the year. Saw another monster that was only willing to follow a spinnerbait back to the boat and get me all worked up, and not bite. Best three fish were 30-30- and 32" weighing in at 7 1/2 to 9 pounds. Spinnerbaits in 6-10 FOW next to deep water did the trick. I think those big ones I keep seeing are just stalking me. I'm anxious for October when they're more willing to play.
Re: 2017 Pike tally
Released 2 small pike and lost a decent fish last night on the north end of Cda. The ones you lose don't count so two more brings me to 162. I'm plenty ready for the water temps to drop about 15 degrees.
Re: 2017 Pike tally
We worked early on Tuesday to beat the heat a little and I was off at 2 o clock. Took a co worker with me to Cda looking for pike and didn't do too bad for a short trip. He started the day with a 27"er. I finished with 4 pike with the top three going 29-30-31" NO monsters but nice fat hard fighting fish. those 4 bring me to 166 for the year. All fish were caught on spinnerbaits in 76+ degree water.
Re: 2017 Pike tally
5 pike in the boat on Saturday gets me to 171. The water temps came down a little from my last trip to Cda. I saw 73 the whole time I was there. That's a good thing. Another 5 to 10 degrees lower and they should really turn on. Normally I have to slow retrieves down a little in the hot weather and warm water temps but the fish are still wanting spinnerbaits on a fairly fast retrieve. White and orange has done well lately.
