Electric Trolling Motors Only
2 or 3 years ago I got into it with a land owner who told me I couldnt go on Lake Sixteen with my motor on my boat. I told him it wasnt in the water and I was going in. Well one of the site admins told me that he beleived that was the rule and that I was illegal for going on the lake even if my motor was up and out of hte water. I am bored at work and decided to look it up and sure enough here is the rule.
References in the Special Rules to "motors prohibited" means that fishing from a floating device equipped with a motor is prohibited. "Internal combustion motors prohibited" means that fishing from a floating device equipped with an internal combustion motor is prohibited. "Equipped with" means the motor is attached to the fl oating device, regardless of whether the motor is in the water.
I was wrong. It hasnt' happened since that day and now I know it wont happen ever again.
Most of you probably already knew this but it seemed ridiculous to me if my motor was tilted up why I couldnt put it on the water.

I have never met a fish yet that respected a big purchase. You can own a $100 boat or you can own a $30,000 boat. You might be more comfortable, but don't expect any fish to care about your investment.

Yeah, people get pretty persnickety about that rule in particular. My bro got yelled at while he was at Armstrong, and he too had his motor up and out of the water. Then, one of the people suggested that if he kept his motor up and had a trash bag wrapped around the entire lower unit, he might be ok, but according to the definition, not so. Glad I gots my electric setup on my 12 foot yacht....I'm good to go, haha.

Believe it or not I seen a kid at Island lake in Kitsap County get a ticket for having a gas powered RC boat on the lake get a ticket for it.I was surprised that they actualy ticketed the kid for it.But I learned at that moment they don't play around with that rule.So I purchased a Minn Kota electric for that lake.If they will ticket the kid for a RC boat they would most defintley get me.

Like Bill said, it's about the oil and gas leaking that they are worried about. There's always a few dudes who have the balls to run gas motors in some of the electric only lakes and there's some more who put a garbage bag over the motor or tilt it up and hope a warden doesn't show up...

That is dead on! I was at Beaver and Alice, where I fish a lot, and especially at Alice, found many people backing in their 15-18' basstracker boat with 115hp engines with it tilted up or they even used them to putt-putt out and anchor the boat - the fumes were gagging...It's imperative that we do obide the rules and regulations when it comes to electric motor use only.Sam Kafelafish wrote:and there's some more who put a garbage bag over the motor or tilt it up and hope a warden doesn't show up...

My worst example of this was the guy that put his gas-powered boat into Rattlesnake last year. I called him on it and he told me that he had a friend at WDFW that specifically told him he could do this on Rattlesnake if hew ket themotor out. And yes, I did contact the police, not that anything was done. Seeing that gas motor on Rattlesnake made me sick.

RE:Electric Trolling Motors Only
People really abuse Rattlesnake...from this to trashing the place with beer and junk to fishing illegally with powerbait and worms. I know the WDFW is stepping up enforcement from talking to an officer a couple weeks ago...so this should improve. A very few minority ruin it for the rest us that fish by the rules and enjoy the serenity only fishing and nature supply. BTW, you're much better contacting the WDFW directly - you can do so on the back side of your parking permit supplied with your liscense...the police aren't going to do a thing, they really don't care, that is a generalization, but it's pretty much true. I've had my fair share of run-ins with the WDFW and they are great people. If you can, get the number of an officer and call him or her personally and they can help anyone out - that's if you're good friends with them. The Rattlesnake problem is sad, and we as a fishing community cannot keep enduring these ill-fated acts on our fishing grounds.Mike Carey wrote:My worst example of this was the guy that put his gas-powered boat into Rattlesnake last year. I hear Rattlesnake is just a mess now....Never been there, don't think I'll ever get around to it, but from what it sounds like, its a sweet lake that unfortunately gets abused beyond belief...
