Re: Edmonds Pier still under construction?
Yes work is still being done on the Edmonds fishing pier. As some may know the construction has taken longer than originally intended and it cost an additional 350,000 + more than the original budget. There was evidence of a significant amount of moisture penetration into the structure's interior that caused rebar corrosion and concrete deterioration. Corrosion mapping testing determined that over 90 percent of the pier structure beyond the breakwater required reconstruction of the concrete edges and railing support anchors. New galvanic anodes are being installed along the pier edges and center joint to prevent further rebar corrosion in the future.
So where are we now? Well I walked by the pier the other day and noticed the rails have been put back up on the south side of the pier. The cleaning stations are still only walls. All said the city of Edmonds is sticking to it's announcement that the pier will open August 16, 2016. I'm hoping that will the case but a lot of work still needs to be done.

Re: Edmonds Pier still under construction?
Sad part of course is we won't have much of a Salmon season if any. No Coho off the pier (sigh). And understand I know why the sound isn't getting a Coho season but they have the imprint coho that will be returning that don't/won't go to a river. Instead those returning fish will just swim around the pier and eventually into the marina and die only to become crab bait unless the sea lions come in and clean house first.
During my walk we found the Edmonds Marina News letter and it mentions the Edmonds Coho Derby and I couldn't believe my eyes.... http://portofedmonds.org/wp-content/upl ... 16news.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Of course we know it's a misprint but...
I also joked with my wife/and or wondered if the city/state would do what the did when the pier opened. Having the Governor of the state come down and cut a ribbon and cast the first official line off the dock. If not, then at least have the Mayor of Edmonds do the honors.
I hope we have a decent squid season off the pier.... something that resembles what we had early/mid 2015.

Thx for the info.
Real bummer with the Coho issue. I hope we get a better 2017 Salmon season. Appreciate that we have a short King Salmon season as oppose to NONE.
Squidding was hot last year and year before. Not sure about the cooler we have this year.

Re: Edmonds Pier still under construction?
Thought I'd post a update on the pier since the 16th is coming up fast.
Per http://www.edmondswa.gov/visitor-statio ... -pier.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
PARTIAL OPENING August 19th after 4 P.M. through September 2016. East portion of the parking lot will remain closed for contractor staging area.
Everything looks good but they haven't installed benches, cleaning bays, or weather cover areas at this point. New rails, new lights are in.

Re: Edmonds Pier still under construction?
Yeah it's over budget but whoever did the quote didn't think they'd have the issue with the rebar. I actually expected worse as I heard from a couple of people that were on the pier during the 2000 earthquake and said the pier basically twisted and flopped about. Remember part of the delay was figuring out who was going to pay the changes in the budget.
I had spotted cracks in the concrete. Knew the water lines were shot. Figured the electrical had to be in the same boat. Obviously the cleaning stations were going to go. I expected them to be late but still get at least one month or three weeks during the King season. Not knowing the Coho thing was going to be a no ho period I had originally looked forward to floating herring on a bobber on the north side. I did well last year - for it being my first time.
Hopefully this time around people will treat the new signs/cleaning stations/weather stations with some respect and not just trash it... but that could be wish full thinking in the end.

Re: Edmonds Pier still under construction?
A bit of an update...
I squid fished there on Friday night, and went crabbing yesterday.
The pier is re-opened, but not completely finished yet. The completed work looks great, and it's so nice to get back out there. All of the wood railing caps have been replaced with trex type false wood. It looks great but I sort of missed the worn grooves in the wood. It will be interesting to see how they hold up.
The water to the cleaning stations has not been hooked up yet, and some people have used the cleaning stations without water, and left a stinky mess. Sure is a shame.
Hey all. That facility is ours. Please take care of it like it was your own home. It will last longer and be more pleasurable for everyone.
Tight Lines!

Pier Review
Quick review as I went to the pier on Sunday and again on Monday. The press release said they would open the pier on 9/2 around 9 a.m. but for some odd reason they opened it after the workers had left for the day round 4:30 P.M..
Lots of visitors and lots of crabbers on both Sunday and Monday. I'm sure the local businesses appreciate the late extra tourists but would have probably been happier if the pier had opened much earlier. Most of the work is unseen, meaning it's on the underside or lower water structures. The metal rails were cleaned, the waterlines are/have been replaced. The old wood rails have been replaced with recycled plastic, however not all has been replaced as of this date. The cleaning area has not been completed and water does not flow. If you look into towards the sky you will notice whatever weather is in play as the roof is currently open. Construction will be ongoing for the next several weeks. For what I understand the covers will be up mid week to some time next week. I assume they will paint the walls. Attach faucets. Activate water. Eventually new posters/information will be provided. I don't have the link at this time but I believe it is Woodway High school that is doing the information posters (somebody else can correct me on that). The report I read said that some people thought the old ones (which weren't that old) were poorly done/too much information and some cases incorrect. The example they used was the one regarding the route the various types of salmon take into the ocean and eventual return. I really hope they have a fish and even bird posters like before. It helps when you are trying to say... dude just say no way to Rockfish it's closed to harvest and be able to point at the poster and the persons potential dinner of the day.
As usual the wardens had to be out in force as some didn't follow rules. They missed one on Sunday but he was warned by regulars that Coho and all Salmon is closed.
Hopefully I've enclosed a picture of the new benches. Some of the rails still need to be replaced. And hopefully people won't destroy the new rails and find a better way than drilling into recycled plastic to put a fishing rod holder.
