Wild Trout fishing methods?
What methods of fishing would you recommend for fishing wild trout? I've heard of people using flys, but are there other methods (cause those wild trout are much smarter and evasive than the stock trout)?
Re: Wild Trout fishing methods?
Barring bait (natural or otherwise), artificial flies are always a good option, but spinners can also be productive. I've also wondered how artificial trout beads might work in mountain streams as I've hooked many trout while drifting beads for winter Steelhead.uavitaliy1 wrote:What methods of fishing would you recommend for fishing wild trout? Metallic red or bronze Mepps aglia spinners in a size 1 or 0 are my standby for any creek or river fishing I may be doing for trout.

Dick nite spoons work great also! Size 0 or wee size. Drift them down river just like you would a bead.

Ive litterally caught over a thousand wild trout in washington state with some 100 fish days on certain lakes and streams (mostly subalpine)
panther martin spinners in size 4. 1/4oz-3/8th oz Kasmaster spoons.
If you want to use flies but dont fly fish, use a water bobber 6ft of leader and your fly of choice, ld use wooley buggers, balanced leeches and damselfly nymphs. Flies really do work well on natives... Once youve got your technique down you could make your leader length 10ft or longer and use chironomids and other nymphs like pheasant tails and hairs ear nymphs.
If all else fails a nightcrawler never fails, but remember every fish caught on bait counts towards your daily limit, whether kept or released.

Yeah if anything a wild fish has stronger instincts than a dumb trout and they hit more aggressively fearing missing a meal straight off any trigger. Spinners or spoons work great just be sure to bring a variety of either, as where u put it is more important than what it is. (So bring spoons that run shallow, deep, buoyant, et cetera)
Match metal colors to light at the moment ur fishing so u don't have to much/too little flash
+1 for pm spinners they have a good record
