20 years ago while living in Northern California I fished for bass and frankly did not do very well. I did not fish again until I started up last year.

My avatar is me with the first bass I caught when I started fishing again...I know all you die-hard C&R guys are thinking "Hey, that is his Kitchen, he killed that bass and ate him!" Well, you are right I did. I did this out of ignorance. Perhaps if someone like Eastside Redneck would have taken me fishing through the big brother program I would have more respect. I no longer kill bass, cuz "trout and gills are food and bass are toys"

You know Eastside, may I call you Eastside, none of my three kids left at home have ANY interest in fishing...maybe the big brother program would be good, except I am such a new fisherman that I do not know if I could be much of a fishing mentor to a kid.

Like I said I do not kill them anymore, but I am going to try to Sore Lip 'em All

I don't consider myself an excellent or highly skilled fisherman by any means Iskiles... There is just something about sharing fishing with a youngster. I think the experience itself is more important than how much experience or skill you have. I cherished and often reflect on the times I spent as a kid fishing with adults. In college I spent a summer as a sleepaway summercamp counselor/campcraft director in Prescott, Az. for ages 5-17 and loved teaching and fishing with the kids. I'm trying to get my daughter into fishing, but when it comes time for her to join me she always balks.

As far as C&R goes I release 95% of the fish I catch, including bass. Back home the fisheries were much more successful and robust, allowing me to guiltlessly take home about 25% of my catch.

Beaver Lake has brown bullhead catfish if you want those.

Any idea where in Beaver they are hanging out? I read somewhere that they prefer nightcrawlers over the usual stinkbait catfish go nuts for... unfortunately every time I try to fish for them I end up landing a dozen or so pumpkinseeds before I give up and go back to targeting bass.

Hello EastsideRedneck! Have you ever tried Harts Lake? It's at least an hour and a half away from you, but I hear it has respectible channel cats in it (although reading the latest WL.com reports it look like it's been catfished out).

As for my avatar the picture was taken at the Sleeping Lady Resort in Leavenworth, WA last October. That grey statue looking thing is a giant fish-man with a net with an angler in it. I'm cowering on the ground because I'm a big dork. Ha ha.

Mine is a 4lb LMB from one of my favorite lakes in New Jersey. It had a small creek that ran into it and I would always catch at least 2 to 4 bass out of it. So one day I was fishing with my buddy and I saw this bass hanging out by some brush inches from the shoreline. I could have netted the fish it was so close. My buddy was about 10 feet away.I looked at him making the shhhhh face as not to spook her and made a hand gesture on the size. She was somewhat finicky I had to switch worms several times before getting her to finally bite. Oh boy when she did and I set the hook she shot out of that hole like a rocket. She gave a good fight and when I got her in my buddy snapped the pic that is now my avatar. Hopefully she is still swimming around in that lake for me to go back and catch again someday!!

I grew up fishing hike in lakes and though I've moved on to more productive forms of the sport I still greatly enjoy taking a 4 piece spinning rod up to a mountain lake and casting small spinners for small trout.

The lake in the background of my avatar is "Castle" and it is awesome. The only hike in lake I've ever been to where you can routinely catch good sized trout (i.e. 12" to 14"). Fish large enough that one is good enough for a meal. And this is quite fortuitous because the limit is one there.


I know this lake and the various hiking routes (can't say trails because most of the routes in are pretty much a bushwhacking experience) in very well. One interesting factoid about this lake is that every trout I've kept for consumption has had crayfish in it's stomach. When trout can feed on crayfish they can get pretty big so it is my very humble opinion that there are fish in this lake that weigh in a lot bigger than 14".

One of my buddies who went in with me a few times is an exterminator. His specialty is "carpenter ants". He checked some of the logs floating on the lake (there's a bunch of them) and they are all very much infested with carpenter ants that the trout no doubt feed on when the opportunity presents itself.

I'd try around 30-40 feet off the bottom with a nightcrawler. I think bottomfishing the middle of the part to the left of the boat launch would be your best bet.

I finally figured out how to post an Avatar. I am technologically challenged and it took until recently for me to go to even a digital camera. I just got tired of those disposable film cameras losing images of great fish and my wife finally ceded to the idea that I won't drop the camera out of a boat. So I don't have too many good digi-photos yet, but will definitely update my picture next season.

As far as this one goes, it is my first Florida Peacock Bass of last September's vacation. While my wife and her cousin were going through Butterfly World at Pompano Beach, the need was stronger for me to wet a line than to look at a bug collection. And since I was so anxious, she let me fish the canal near the parking lot. I hooked up with this little peacock using a Super Spook before she went into the attraction, so she snapped the photo. I caught bunches more and most were bigger, but they are on film not computer. And I am not checked out on the scanner, yet.

I'll update the peacock in Feb of '09, when I go back. Then it'll be a better looking fish.

Cool thread , My avatar is the Biggest LMB i have caught in this state so far . 6.5 LMB .. I have no worries about the details . I was fishing Lake X back in May of 07 and was using "Bacon" that day . ..lol I plan on replacing this avater this year , iv been tracking two 7+ pounders that i have found last year and my goal is to catch both this year ... So There ya go boyz next time your on the eastside fishing Lake X just tie up the Bacon and you can have a blast ... last season i lipped 5/4lb's 2/5lb's and this 6.5 pounder .. ooooo that's why he calls himself BigBass Dez !!! BBD

I really cant beleive it. Last week I figured out how to make "favorites", earlier this week I found out how to set my "back ground" and just now I figured out how to set my "aivater". I am starting to figure this "computer" thingy out. Now if only I can get the pics from my camera on my computer. For now this picture will do. These are my 2 pups (not pups anymore but they will always be my pups) Marley and Karma.
