No problem here. She can go any time she wants to.
On the over all problem. You must find one that can stand on her own. With my wife of over 25 years, she does her thing, I do my thing and we do our thing. When they cross it's even better. When she goes fishing I try to squeeze in a little of what she likes too but after all fishing is fishing.....

My wife is all about fishing. We get home from a trip to the salt she wants to head back out for walleye or maybe kokes. Now that I am retired she gets really upset if we are not on the water. I could not have married a better person to be my best friend and fishing partner.

Same here Bob, matter of fact, SHE suggested we upgrade from our Sportsman to our ProV, and even though I had just been laid off (was hired on at a new shop 2 or 3 weeks later), said let's pull the trigger.
When it comes to gear for the boat, she's all over it. Loves to fish, enjoys being on the boat, and as long as I don't make her drive the boat (except when trolling) or the tow rig (never, ever) she's a happy camper.

ditto. JoAnn goes fishing with me and I know what she enjoys, so that's what we do. The rest of the time I have pretty much free reign. Of course, now I can pull the trump card "it's for the business" :-)

I wasn't going to go there but so right, pick and be choosy till you know it's right.Mike Carey wrote:ditto. JoAnn goes fishing with me and I know what she enjoys, so that's what we do. If more people were picky and choosy there would be a lot less divorce in this country.
Re: I know I am not the only one with this problem!!
I didn't fish for the first ~8-9 yrs of my wife's and I relationship. When I got back into and it became somewhat of an obsession of mine I was pretty arrogant and unilateral about it. I told her when I would fish, didn't ask, and seldom entertained her feedback or requests to do things and spend time with her. That caused problems, not the fishing itself so much.
We've settled in though and things are going well. She knows I'm going to fish and I know to talk with her and listen instead of dictating the terms. It's seldom a problem anymore.
You live, you learn.
Good luck drysuperfly!

i am all good she has no problems with me getting some fishing in, its just the 3+ times a week she frowns on. I am completely happy with a weekly outing (we both go). if only my job could be fly fishing..

Nothing wrong with 3 times a week, just make sure you keep up your end when you get back.

That brings up a subset question - how much fishing per week/mmonth is "enough"? 3x a week would push it with my wife I think. Frankly, I have too much going on to go that often.

I think a lot of it has to do with our stealth you are in not effecting family time. When I go all day on a Sat. or Sunday, that has a big effect at home. But I get my dose in though via going before work 0500, or after dinner, weeknights til dark, etc.Mike Carey wrote:That brings up a subset question - how much fishing per week/mmonth is "enough"? 3x a week would push it with my wife I think. Roger that, As my sister says I am a confirmed bachelor, I can fish when and as often as I want.Amx wrote:Nope, no problem at all. Fishing is so much better.

Nope. Get to fish whenever I want. Depending on the season sometimes I fish everyday. Even if it's only for a hour. Sometimes I go weeks without fishing aswell. She understands when it's time I will be fishing.
