Hey Aaron, great to see you puttin the lures to good use. I haven't been keeping up with the board here like I should so many things to do and such little time. but i just wanted to add that The Sink-N-Fool is not just a bass lure. They have caught 18 different species of Freshwater fish and 11 from saltwater, from Tarpon to Brown Trout and Muskie to Mahi mahi. I have caught about 10 different ones my self Including a 17 1/2" crappie on a 6" green Shad, a 7 lb. Bull trout, a 12 lb Lake trout. My biggest pike with a Sink-N-Fool was 29" so I still have you beat. :)

Farmer_aa and I went out to see if we could add to our tallies of pike for the year. He allowed me to close the gap a little by spending the day catching bass. He got some nice ones with his biggest going 5lbs. He did however only put one pike in the boat. I'll let him post that photo if he wants to. I give thanks to the bass for keeping him busy while I was catching pike. [flapper]
While Aaron was catching bass, I released 10 pike and 3 bass on the day. The 2 biggest were both 32"ers.
These 10 bring me to a grand total of 36 pike for the year so far. I still have a lot of ground to make up if I'm going to catch up with the farmer. He looks like he's taking this pike tally serious this year and wants to take home the Crown.

I have a bit of catching up to do on my tally...

Wednesday, June 11th, the King and I went out to catch some morning pike. It wasn't great, but we brought 5 to the boat total, and his was the biggest at around 26". Spoons on the deep edge of the weeds was the ticket.
52. 22" (R) 53. 20" (R) 54. 21" (R) 55. 24 3/4" (R)

The next trip was on Saturday, June 14 with Mark from his boat. He was gracious enough to bring me along as a photographer to document all of his fish! I was mostly just a bass fisherman this day, and managed a small pike on a borrowed lure after much resistance and griping. 10 pike to 1... ouch. Thanks for the lesson!
56. 19" (R)

Father's day brought one more fish, but a good one. The picture makes it look like it was hooked in the gills, but actually it just thrashed when it was on the deck with the scale hooked on, but it was fired up and ready for release and I'm sure it was fine. It was good to catch a decent pike after the day before, and I missed several more around the home base that afternoon. The highlight of the day, however, was my 6 year old daughter's first fish completely unassisted, a 10" crappie on a 3" Ripple Shad. She's been bugging me to fish every day since, and has about 6 fish on her tally now. Proud papa!

I did fish last weekend... and on Saturday June 21 it was a pretty decent morning. I saw some really big fish, too, that were hanging out up high in weeds nearing the surface in about 8' of water, but none could be convinced to eat. I did see three distinct fish I would guess were in the 15 pound range, though no strikes from these big girls.

6/22/14 (Mid Morning) There were still fish up, but I didn't see any of the big cruisers from the day before. Did manage 4 more, though, on Mark's favorite lure.

My computer has been down for a while but it's back up and running so here's a catch up report on my pike talley for the year.
Since my last post from fishing with
Farmer_aa, I have been out 3 more times. None of hese trips produced big numbers but no shumks were in the mix.
I fished June 21st with fellow washington laker dblood and managed 5 pike. No big ones, just the run of the mill 20-25 inchers.
On June 29th I fished with Mark K. Also a washington laker. I managed 5 fish on this day as well.

On July 3rd, yesterday, I fished with my wife on the main lake at Cda, then ducked into Thompson Lake and got zipped there. I did catch 4 decent pike in the main lake on this trip and missed several more with some of those being pretty large fish. Largest fished C&R'd this trip was 27"
5+5+4= 14, added to my previous total of 36 brings me to 50 on the year so far. "The Farmer" has me by a few but he will be on the shelf soon, playing with his combines, so that should give me a chance to catch up a little. He is proving to be a very consistant fisherman, and I look forward to fishing with him again very soon.

I have not been on here in a while but thought I would give a quick report. My Spring was super busy so just now getting out more.
Fished the Chain lakes over the weekend of the 4th. Slammed the pike. Spinner bait was key on outside weed edges in 8-10' of water. My spinner bait is a frankenstein stanley wedge with a secrete skirt and a 5" kahlin lunker grub in chart. holo. fleck. Went 15 outa 18 on Friday with the largest 12lb4oz then went 11 outa 16 on Sunday. I lost 3 fish on Sunday back to back, decided to check my hooks and sure enough they were very dull from all the hookups prior. A couple of those fish were pushing 8lbs. Check those hooks! Sharpened them up and didn't loose another fish. Threw a spook and managed to get 3 fish on topwater, nothing huge though. Great weekend with just the wife, kids at grandmas, wife is a pro at netting now!

Well I work out in the field so I am not usually near internet access during the summer, and on my days off I fish, so I usually don't post what I catch (not that it has been that many) but I have the rare access and time to do this so lets catch up on the tally. I count seven fish from my previous posts, AAfarmer had me convinced it was more but if I didn't record it... it might as well not have happened.
So adding to the seven I have
24", 22", 22", 20.5", 18.5 " (jealous?), 24", 23", and 23.5"
Bringing me to a whopping 15... seems like those numbers are out of order after looking at what you guys have been doing... I will catch up (maybe...)

Here are a couple photos from that time frame:

Ok small favor. My son and I come over every year for the last 13 years(I started fishing the chain lakes when I was in high school instead of driving all the way back to Minnesota circa 1979) and have noticed that each year some lakes are red hot and others are ice cold. Not the same lake every year. We are over there from Monday thru Friday and was hoping to save some time. Anyone have any tips on what is hot and what is not? PM would be great. Thanks for any help Oly1

I got out for a short but sweet day yesterday on the chain lakes. I got outfished from the back of my own boat by a guy that has never fished for pike in his life. LOL
He got 13 and I got 8. He got me on numbers but his biggest was 27 1/2" and mine was 33"
Fish were hitting spinnerbaits, spoons and frogs. We beat the heat and got out early starting at 5:15am and left at noon. The fish were hungry early. We never should have switched lakes. Chances are we would have had better numbers if we had stayed with the first lake. I think I made a pretty happy beginner out of him and I'm going to guess he will be a new addition to the pike fishing addiction.
See my report for details of the trip.
8 more for me brings me to 58 on the year.
FYI Mr. Mark K. this trip blows your "Pike don't bite before 10am" theory right out of the water. We released 19 of our 21 pike between 5am and 8:10am. [flapper] Get out of bed and fish dude!!!

If this report seems short it's because I'm still irritated with mother nature about yesterdays trip. A guy works hard and sweats his butt off all week looking forward to a good day of weather for fishing and what does he get?????

25 mile an hour winds and lots of other boats. Started fishing at about 8:15am and left the lake at noon. Two small pike and a small bass for my efforts. Looks like there was another bass tourney going on. I think every guy that has ever watched Jimmy Houston or Bill Dance was out there playing bass fisherman. And they think they own the lakes if I might add.

2 more pike brings me to 60 for the year. (Even if they were small)

8 more pike yesterday brings me up to 68 on the year. Found fish in the main lake using spinnerbaits in 8 to 10 feet of water. Two biggest were 27" and right at 6 pounds. Lost one at the boat right near the end of the day that would likely have gone 30" or so. Early morning and evening bite was best. We did lose one fish that couldn't be revived. Fortunately my neighbor is a fish eater.

Glad to see there are still fish in the lake. I'm going to be off the combine for a little while, hopefully next week, and I'm still out of date on my tally from July, so I'll work on that when I have my phone next to the computer. But I need to get that August pike!

Took advantage of a day off at work and fished Cda for pike yesterday. released 4 pike on the day and od course missed a few others. Biggest 2 fish were 29 and 31". The frog produced 3 fish and spinner bait one. Suprisingly the biggest fish came out of 5 feet of 80 degree water. Main lake temps were 73 to 77 degrees. All fish were buried in the weeds. sorry for the bad selfie but that's how it goes when you fish alone.
4 on the day brings me up to 72 for the year.

Released pike #73 on Saturday, along with some nice bass that were kind enough to keep me a little busy and keep the trip from being a skunk. One pike on the day but we missed over 20 strikes between the two of us. They seemed to be a little noncomittal and just biting the tail or should I say legs of the almighty frog baits. water temps are coming down and the stringy weeds are going away. Things appear to be shaping up for a great fall bite.

Pike don't eat before 10am??? That's coming from a guy that has trouble getting out of bed in the morning LOL. I have had several days this year where I had more than one in the boat before 8am. HA HA HA so there. In fact, my two personal best pike, a 40"er and a 42"er, both caught within 40 miles of home, not 20 hrs away ( [biggrin] )were both caught before 8am. Get out of bed and fish my friend and you'll experience the early morning bite.
I can't believe you would get on here and rub our noses in the fact that you and Doug just got to go fish at Lake of the Woods. I'm oozing with jelousy over that. Sounds like you guys had a ton of fun. When will you be going back?
