salmon la sac camping

Post by Burnside » Thu May 22, 2014 6:12 am

I am headed to salmon la sac and was wondering where to fish near the campground. Also what gear would be best to use? we will have my buddies son with us who is 6 or 7 and would like to get him into some fish.

Thanks!

There are whitefish and trout in the Cle Elum river that runs along the campground. Selective gear rules are in effect though. Cooper lake is a short drive from the campground. It also holds trout, but not sure what shore fishing access is like.
Good luck!

yep, your best bet is the river, lots of places to access it..
most the fish in Lake Cle Elum are deep or around the river mouth, real hard to fish from shore and be productive.
Cooper lake is going to have snow around in in areas I think still and the shore access is super slim.. better off fishing from something that floats.

FYI, there is still snow at 4k and up, but melting fast, I would assume the river will be running pretty good and the lake getting high.

have fun! love it up there!

The upper Cle Elum was running very fast and high just 4 days ago. I was at Salmon la Sac. I wouldn't have called it very fishy just now. Like Oneshot said, if you can access a boat (electric motor--not gas)
And hit Cooper lake.
