Kids fishing ponds

Post by gon2fsh » Fri May 11, 2007 8:50 pm

Does any body else take their children to an under 14 fishing pond. I take mine to Mill pond in Auburn and every time I go there, there are fathers that don't let there kids fish. I see kids standing there watching their dad's reel in triploids. I say give the kid the pole and if he looses the fish so be it. The kids catching the fish are having more fun than the one watching their dads catch a fish. Personally my best day fishing is watching a young child reel in a fish; evenwhen they're not mine.

You're absolutely right. The experience is for the child. It is a time of growing and learning. It is a time to make lasting memories with your children. It is a time to make mistakes and dream about tomorrow. I have many fond memories of fishing with my father that can always bring a warm smile to my face. Take a kid fishing it is good for the soul.:)

That really upsets me as well. When Im fishing with children I do every last part of fishing. No mater how big the fish I net it for him/her. Then I get the pliers and remove the hook even it the fish is only lip hooked. All the basics of fishing. Just to give the kid a better idea of the sport. Another part of the sport is loosing big fish so no matter how big the fish if its on the kids pole they are going to reel it in. Most of the time THEY LOOSE IT and most of the time they cry when that happens but thats a part of the sport. As long as your possative and talk to them about it the crying only lasts about 2 min. and there onto the next fish

Wow, that's pretty low in my opinion. The best memory of my childhood was probably catching a 5.75 pound trout from Fort Borst Pond in Centralia (a 14 and under pond). I remember my dad shouting directions at me like "let it run!", probably because he knew it was a trout of a lifetime (hands down the biggest trout I've caught to date), but I got to land it all by myself (well, my dad did tackle it as soon as I got it to shore). I was 6, and got to be in the paper, and take the fish to show-and-tell on ice. Great times... and they all would of been a lie had my dad reeled the fish in for me.

Don't these fathers understand the concept of fishing or family? Very upsetting indeed.
