SMALL SHARK OR DOGFISH

Post by syotos2294 » Wed Jan 22, 2014 10:14 pm

Just recently got into fishing for shark, main interest is dogfish. I have been fishing for them at point defiance marina and have had no luck at all. Does someone know where a good spot is to catch dogfish?

Les Davis pier in the summer is great. You can even catch 6 gill that get up to twelve feet but the targeting of them was illegal last summer. They might change it this upcoming season. Having a 200 pound shark on the end of your line is a blast. Let me know if you have any questions I can hook up with gear to use

Night fishing Fox island or Les Davis pier. Point defiance isn't any good anymore, Growing up fishing for them was always fun. The occasional ling cod or 6- 10 foot fatty Six gill always seemed to get the blood runnin.

I think your problem is that they travel to deeper water in the winter and cant be caught near shore in shallow water

They show back up in June

for dog fish... I always had better luck going to the right side... If i remember correctly there is a deeper hole at a 45 degree angle from the right side corner...

Posted in the duplicate thread, whoops. They migrate shallow in spring, July is the best month for them. Really slow close to shore in winter.

why do you want to target them? gonna eat them? caught probably over a thousand salmon fishing over the last 30+ years and haven't had 1 i'd say fought well yet.

i like dogfish, theyre big and they might not fight like a salmon but they can give you a nice little tug of war, plus the bigger ones taste incredible,

some people say soak it in milk, i dont, i just cut the heads and tails off, split them down the middle and take all the guts out, then with some heavy duty pliers, skin them. then once its skinned i cut them into chunks about 2-3 inches, and dip them into a salted and beat up egg, then roll them and full cover them in italian style bread crumbs mixed with garlic salt, and deep fry them til theyre a nice brown. they have such a white and fluffy meat, it tastes amazing! especially when dipped in your favorite ranch sauce, oh man, im really wanting some now, this recipe is best for when you have at least a few dog fish, honestly i can eat like 2 big dogfish myself haha

I've personally seen dogfish go like 4 -4 1/2 feet easy.. (Eating two of those and oh boy..) how big are the "big dog fish" you are eating? and don't they get an overly healthy amount of mercury in their system since they live for so long or is that just a rumor? ... I'm hoping for y'all that its false.

theyre not monsters, but once you cut off the big head and tail, and take off the thick skin, their size is greatly reduced, eating two was an obvious exaggeration to emphasize how great they taste, and im not sure about the mercury, i got this recipe from a uk cooking show on youtube a long time ago

Really curious on how these dogfish taste! thanks for the info. Every person ive ever heard from always said you have to soak them in milk first and it sounds like a pain

The best way to catch dogfish is to fish for salmon. Won't be able to keep them off your line.

agreed. if you aren't catching them at pt defiance then maybe its because they are too deep because off the banks there I caught them every day last summer.
