sick eggs?

Post by 4steelhead » Sat Nov 30, 2013 2:33 pm

I caught a fish today and some of the eggs looked like mustard colored seeds. Does anybody know what happened to these eggs? Her right pectoral fin was clipped, does that mean she was released from the hatchery as an adult?

That is what infertile eggs look like. They turn white and absorb water, but are dead. After a while they grow a hairy fungus on them. They also turn that color if they sit in water. How dark was the fish? How long did you wait until you gutted her? these things could answer your question. If the fish was dime bright and fresh from the ocean, that'd be something else entirely.

It was a steelhead from the upper sky. It had a red stripe on her side and blush cheeks. Looked like a fall steelhead to me. Ive tried to post the pics but they are "invalid", I dont know what I am doing wrong  I caught her at 7 and cleaned her at home, at 12.
