Re: Spring Crappie weather!!
Paterson sloughs, the ridge unit, crow butte, great backwater in between. I have been catching them on the I 82 ponds though. shorter drive . I may go to the Columba this weekend weather permitting.

Nice, yeah I've wondered about the Paterson sloughs if they'd be good for crappie, I've heard for bass and perch they are good. Report back if you get anything this weekend if you go, says it should be getting warmer later this week.crappiemaster wrote:Paterson sloughs, the ridge unit, crow butte, great backwater in between. This last week, since they are more aggressive, I am using 1/32 oz jig with mini jigs. I am using a smaller bobber and a split shot right underneath the bobber to keep it straight up and down. It gets the jig vertical quicker and when you are jerkin', the jig doesn't "float" out of the strike zone. I have the jig 18-24 inches under the bobber. The lake I fish is pretty deep, but in the evening that depth seems to be where they are striking. What works for me is to work the weed beds jerk, jerk, jerk, drag it a little, reel slack and do it again. Keep the bait moving slowly. At least that works for me. Panfisher and some of the others may have other techniques and set ups and they are pretty successful. 1" Gulp minnow are also one of my staples as well in fact, last week they seemed to be liking those a little better.
Thanks, what kind of bobber are you using?
I have been using 1/16 jig heads, looks like I should lighten that up a little. I've been having trouble finding a decent slip bobber that I like, but I just ordered a pack of balsa floats on ebay, so hopefully those work out for me.

Re: Spring Crappie weather!!
Well, I went out last night and only got three and lost one. Water was extremely clear and the sun was very bright as you can probably tell. They were there, but not in the striking mood. I had a blast though, and will try again later in the week. Mord-I use a little round bobber, not fishing deep enough for a slip bobber. Should've last night though. JT-Paterson sloughs is a GREAT place to panfish and largemouth fish. Last year, I met a couple of older guy there that were hammerin' channel cats. If you are a catman, it is worth the trip there. They said they catch a lot there. They walked in from the highway to this point during the summer.
