OK I'm disappointed in this reel one use and it has chipped off the paint. I babied it as it was brand new but geez I was expecting better, my quantum PTi spinner and exo reels have held up really well and still look like new. On the plus side it is smoother than the exo and way lighter than the Pti tour edition.

I like mine. I haven't used it a lot though.
Look for Wannafish A Lure on FaceBook
He said, “Throw your net on the right side of the boat and you will find some.” When they did, they were unable to haul the net in because of the large number of fish.

Re: pflueger
There is no way i could spend that much on a fishing reel... maybe a boat rod but most of my spinning rods see river time and get banged around on gravel and such, paint chips are kinda normal.
Re: pflueger
That is all that matters. I absolutely love my patriarch. By far the lightest, smoothest reel I own.sickbayer wrote: On the plus side it is smoother than the exo and way lighter than the Pti tour edition.
Re: pflueger
Ive owned cheap reels and i honetly dont care to waste my money on them, id prefer cheap rod and quailty reel but then again i own two xrodz and theyre superb! i picked up all my reels on sale including this one, my exo, pti, takotas and my fav casting reel the ambassadeur 7000 c3.

Re: pflueger
I've got 5 Pflueger Presidents, 2 Arbors, a President XT, a Supreme MG, and a new Purist on the way. I take pretty good care of my gear but for the most part, but now I have delegated the regular $50 Presidents to my loaner rods I let people borrow, or when I take by friends fishing and their kid needs a rod etc. I can say that the Pflueger gear I own is some of the toughest gear I have ever owned and don't have a bad thing to say about any of it. Like anything though getting hit in just the right way can unfortunately damage the best of gear, but even when they have gotten thrown down on the bank or slid around in the bed of the truck all I've ever gotten is the expected scratches etc, never any big chips or functional damage.

Re: pflueger
I have the 1954/55 Phluger Supreme. I still use the reel for fresh water only. Its an older but very reliable free spooling reel. I use it on smaller streams. I use my Ambassadors more then any reel for baitcasting. I huse the 6000c for trolling Lk Wa. The 5000c for Steelheading.

Well I just returned it and picked up a ci4 3000. Feels better already.

For the price of the Patriarch, I would expext better too.
Re: pflueger
Yea that shiny aluminum paint chips pretty easily. If I was going to drop that much for a reel, I'd go with a stradic, haven't had any problems with mine and every three months or so I send them all in to get serviced and they come back like new. Shimano's customer service is pretty darn nice.

I have 5 Pflueger reels. The only thing that I ahve ever had was a two screws that were loose. Other than that... Great reels...
Re: pflueger
The hunt you might have had 100 great ones, maybe i got a lemon i dont know all i know is gonna take some mightly convincing on Pflueger part to get me to buy there reel again. Suffice to say I would buy another pflueger like the one i got only if it was a bargin price as i believe its only worth 100 bucks IMO simply not worth the $149 i paid for it.
Yeah Bodo i was gonna get the 2500 but they only had the 3000 and 4000 there. The pflueger is a tad lighter but not salt water recommended at all, not that i cared. I have Takotas for that!

Re: pflueger
I have used cheap reels for years and had very few problems, bearings wear out after a few years and it seems hard to find them and the reel can replaced for the cost of the bearings after shipping. As I have been trying to up my game and get more serious about fishing I bought a bait caster a few months ago. I bought a REVO SL, and paid three times more than I ever paid for a reel. This reel has been back to the factory once already and needs to go back again. The first time it went back because the line did not spool on evenly; there would be more line on the right side than the left and the centrifugal break worked intermittently. Now the thumb release does not disengage when I turn the crank unless I give a real sharp turn. For a brand new reel this thing is POS, I think I should have stuck with cheap reels there all made in China regardless of what you pay for them........What brand name makes a good reel? Are made in USA?

Re: pflueger
Sometimes when your line builds up one one side is because the way the line comes off the spool. Also you might need to adjust the tension knob (not the drag) . On good line it will tell you on the package the best way to wind the line on the reel. I use my older reels much more often then my newer reels. They just seem to not break as often.

TackleTour tests a lot of stuff and of all the rods and reels I currently own that they have reviewed everything has been pretty spot on. I'm not trying to argue that your reel didn't have the problem you mentioned, I think maybe you just had bad luck and I'd encourage you to give them another chance in the future. I honestly love mine.

I usually stay away from anything labeled "Best Value". Makes me feel like I'm shopping for toilet paper or something.......

I might agree if it didn't have a higher review score. Since the reviews were 2 years apart its not like your going to get a head to head other than to compare the incremental values.

Re: pflueger
I love the smooth action of reeling it in and the retrieval rate but too many problems for something brand new. I never had these problems with the cheap reels I bought. My fear is(I work in the manufacturing industry) is that with no real QC going on and companies buying for pennies and charging large dollars there is always the chance its going to be defective. Abu wanted me to pay to ship it back to them after I sent them a picture of the line spooled on one side (it was not how it came of the reel, its a bait caster and I followed the line directions) I had to poise it to them that they admitted they sold me a new reel with a defect and they wanted me to pay to ship it to them for repair, they sent a UPS label and they fixed that problem. What is a good or great reel to buy with a good warranty?TroutSnipr wrote:http://www.tackletour.com/reviewpfluege ... hspin.html Scored an 8.75 and won the best value award in 2011.

Re: pflueger
I have never had any warranty issues with any of the big companies that ended up being unresolved. That being said it is widely regarded that for reels Shimano is one of the best. Of the companies that I personally have had warranty work done I can say that Pfleuger and Penn have been flawless, as has Lew's. I have had bad experiences with Pinnacle and Diawa, though after being stubborn about it got my repairs made.
