Even with really sharp hooks, it happens. I'm 4 for 9 and most of my hooks are about as sharp as they can be.

Uh, you might revist your leader material. Of course I've not hooked into anything that is even close to 10# or above yet, so maybe I have not had to worry with my 10# fluoro.

Hey Bent . That fish is a beauty. So chrome looking. Were you on the Snoqualmie too. Other then my 1 slam I saw nothing down our way.

Thanks, brighter than I'd expected to get this time of year. Yes, on the Snoqualmie. I posted a report if you care to look at it. Aside from this one and one other darker colored fish I saw hooked, but not landed, that was it for any action. Not even any other take downs that I know of. Slow for sure. Think I might have got lucky this morning. [wink]

I have landed an 11lb, 9lb, 7lb and a 5lber all on 6lb leader except for the 11lber, I think I am going to start using 10lb ultra green leader.

You're lighter leader may help with getting more hookups, but certainly adds a challenge to landing larger fish. [thumbup]

And you wonder why we made fun of you for using 6 lb?? Haha. Winter steelhead in 99% of situations are not line shy of 10 or 12 lb ultragreen. Ever. Use it! I catch hundreds a year and never once gone less than 10, or used flouro for that matter

yeah this time I think it was a knot failure, my 8lb has not been tying to well and I forgot to look at the river chart so I expected it was going to be lower, arrived and it was 2 feet higher than last week didn't think much of it and first light float goes down, set hook, a couple huge head shakes short run and SNAP! ouch that sucks, even a local steelhead slayer did not even hook up there.

probally, that local was telling me that is all he uses now. My dad lost one too due to a log and he was using 12lb fluoro you think ultra green can withstand pulling a fish from under a log?

we were using 12lb ultra green and broke off a steelie at the skook yesterday. Maybe just a bad knot.

So, pictures as promised. Friday fished the cascade and landed 8 steelhead. Now, dont think im trying to keep you off the river, but this really was a one day thing. I was there earlier in the week and it was SLOW, and my buddy then went the day after i did, on saturday and caught none and saw none caught. I found one random school in one random hole, and the next day they were gone. So dont think this cascade is on fire, cause it was one day. However, we landed 8 steelies on friday, only 3 under 10lbs, the biggest was a 14lb monster hen, a 12lb hen another 12lb hen and a 12lb buck. some piggies! Pictures from forks next
