Ultra Green OR Fluorocarbon
okay I have not had too much of a problem with fluorocarbon until this weekend when I hooked a nice fish but snapped my 8lb yeah I should not have been using 8lb given the conditions or fish but fluorocarbon is not as strong as say Maxima ultra green so I am wondering if the fish can see the ultra green line in the water more than the flouro or does it really matter for leaders?
Also could I use Ande green line for leaders or would maxima be better?

Ultra green is my go to, it works just fine. Thats what i hooked a steelie on yesterday.
Re: Ultra Green OR Fluorocarbon
I run maxima ultra green. In really low clear conditions I use 8lb and have landed low teen sized fish.

Re: Ultra Green OR Fluorocarbon
alright thanks, so the fish can not see the ultra green all that much and it is stronger than fluoro, what about tying knots, is the knot strength good like it won't come apart reel easy?primetime wrote:I run maxima ultra green. Also good I just use clear mono, would that work too?

Re: Ultra Green OR Fluorocarbon
ULTRAGREEN. Flouro is weak and u dont need it for winter steelhead. Only maybe in the summer. Winter runs dont care. I used flouro a bit and broke off wayy too many on 12 flouro. 8 flouro is wayy too weak for steelhead. Wayy to weak brotha! If ur not using ultragreen, ur missing out

Re: Ultra Green OR Fluorocarbon
well right now I am switching over from those stocker trout brats to bigger chehalis fish and want some more strenghth without using 14lb fluoro so I think I am just going to use 10 or 12lb mono for now until I get some maxima. Anyone ever try Ande, have plenty of that.
Re: Ultra Green OR Fluorocarbon
12lb ultra green dude!! As many fish as you say you break I don't know how you haven't switched! Never have used fluoro so I can't knock it but they bite just fine on ultra green my friend and it is strong.

Re: Ultra Green OR Fluorocarbon
alright haha, I will try it, I normally do not have a problem with it like this summer I was 5 for 7 all except for 1 on 6lb test and the one that I lost spit the hook and broke my line in mid air becuase my drag was too tight.

Re: Ultra Green OR Fluorocarbon
I'd say the fluoro is probably around 8 lb test and the ultra green (marked 8 lb) is around 12 lb test. It's not that fluoro is weak but that most regular lines are under rated.

Re: Ultra Green OR Fluorocarbon
I use line depending on river conditions and size of river like for an example if the cascade and skagit are both low and clear I will use 6lb on the cascade but 10lb on the skagit but from what I have gathered it doesn't matter what color it is but what diameter it is depending on river conditions. thanks for the help guys.Metal wrote:Bonker stop second guessing yourself all the time on line. Go by this and you'll be fine. 8lb in gin clear water, 10 in less than 4 foot vis, and 12+ for native fish in green water. These aren't summer run bonker.
Re: Ultra Green OR Fluorocarbon
If you stick with maxima ultra green you will stop losing fish. Don't go less than 8. I only do that in super low and clear

Re: Ultra Green OR Fluorocarbon
your not quite getting what me or primetime are trying to say here, hahaha. No toying around, buy a 10$ spool of 10lb ultra green, it will last you an entire season and u wont break anything off. JUST DO IT!Brat Bonker wrote:sounds good, I think I will toy around with clear mono and ultra green and maybe some ande

I've screwed around with a lot of different leader lines, including pretty much every type of mono you can think of and several different types of fluoro as well. I always go back to ultra green. It's just plain tough. I brought a 14 lb. hen to the bank this summer on a 6 lb. ultragreen leader, using my buddy's setup that included an ancient quantum baitcaster with about the jerkiest drag imaginable. Never should have landed that fish, but it goes to show that if you are tying good knots you can generally count on maxima to get the job done.

Re: Ultra Green OR Fluorocarbon
yep that is the selling point haha, going to wholesale sports to pick up some haha. so for medium to low conditions 10lb test will be good during low water?rcthepirate wrote:I've screwed around with a lot of different leader lines, including pretty much every type of mono you can think of and several different types of fluoro as well. I would go with eight during low water, but for winters I don't think you'd be at a disadvantage using ten.

MAXIMA ULTRAGREEN!!!!!!!
it is not that difficult just buy it, use it, and quit second guessing things. Listen to how many people agree...not very many things you will find that so many people agree on. Must be a reason!!
