Skykomish - Float Stop to Jig....how far? Plus more, HELP

Total rookie question here, but this forum seems friendly to rooks. Two family members and I are heading up the Sky to try to catch steelhead on Sunday. I recently fell into a LIFETIME supply of high quality 3/8, 1/4, and 1/8 maribou jigs, and we are going see what they can do. I'm talking THOUSANDS of these bad boys, all different color combos. I've only salmon fished out in the salt, lake trout, and bass fished. But I am a research junkie, and feel confident that one of us can find a fish this weekend up on the Sky with a little help. We are going to go the float/jig setup with maybe a chunk of shrimp/prawn on the jig. Sound right? How deep is the water? On average how far from the float stop to the bottom are we talking? I know it all depends on where we are fishing, but generally speaking.

Any other tips you pros might be willing to share? I have read a lot on here using the search, but never hurts to get live, current info too.

I only use anywhere from 12 to 18 inches on my leader and adjust my bobber stops accordingly to have the jig just off the bottom. and one other thing, I would stick to the 1/8's in low clear water. And congrats on the haul of jigs! To be so lucky!!!

First look around you when you get there. You'll probably see how deep other around you are setting their leaders/bobber stops. Start there.
For pretty much any river you fish here is a good starting point if you don't have a reference. Start with roughly a 24" leader below your float (this will allow you to change jigs a few times before your leader gets too short and needs to be replaced. If you're float is falling over, then you're fishing in water that is probably too shallow to hold fish, unless it's very low visibility or turbid. Pending the water is at least two feet deep and deeper, adjust your bobber stop in increments until you start seeing your float tip over. Now you're dragging bottom with your jig. Readjust your stop so that the jig is somewhere between 6" to 2 feet off the bottom and go to town. Continually adjust colors and depth until it pays out Good luck.

if you don't want some of them I would be more than happy to take some off your hands for you haha.
I like to fish my jig with bait to start off with in low light or little water viz. About 1 1/2-3ft leader to a swivel, a small egg sinker and a 1/8-3/8 oz bobber.
For the jigs 1/16-1/4oz work in pinks, reds, oranges but does not hurt to experiment of course. Do you mind saying how you came across this large stash?

Thanks fellas. I appreciate the help. Is it pretty packed up there these days? I assume Reiter is going to be the most popular spot right? I don't might stomping up or down river to get a little space and privacy. As far as how I came into all these jigs? My uncle-in-law owned a bait shop business in Spokane several years ago. He had a whole warehouse full of plastics, tubes, cinco worms, grubs, and all kinds of crazy exotics too. Also was nearly an entire pallet of maribou jigs. When he passed away suddenly, his son let me come over and fill up my Honda Pilot with as much as I could fit.
