I fished the skook yesterday. I heard of one fish caught and saw 1 bright fish jump, very slow, Fished the skook from 7-1 then moved on to the cowlitz. Hooked into one but didnt land it, the guys in the boats didnt have much, I saw one person with a very nice steelhead, probably 13-14 lbs, too bad it had a adipose fin, I didnt bother to call since he was walking off when I arrived and fish and game were checking boats and liscenses... I posted about this yesterday but it doesnt look like it showed up anywhere

yikes that guy doesnt sound very bright. Only heard of one fish hooked today that a guy snapped off on a root ball. I could see the nice steelhead dead in about 3 ft of water, so a young guy was going to wade out and get it. As the guy who broke it off didnt want to bother.

I hit the skook yesterday too. Got to the fields at 6:30am and starting walking to the lower holes. Fished for a bit...nothing. Slowly made my way up to the dam, hitting almost every spot that was fishable, with nothing to show (not even a bobber down). Finally got around the dam about 1, without seeing or hearing of any fish (which was strange considering how many anglers were there). Right before I left I heard some commotion and saw a guy at the upper most spot (by the damn) fighting a fish. Saw him walk out with it, looked pretty big considering he was holding it by the gills about waist level and the tail was only a few inches off the ground. As I was taking off the waders at the car I heard talk of 1 more coming from the fields. So, kind of a slow day at skook, but should hopefully get better.

Wasn't able to make it down to the Skook on Sunday, but spent about 4 hours there today. Nothing, nada, zip. Not even any cutts biting worms to keep my boy enthused, and he was pretty upset when the sun starting going down and we had to go (it was getting COOOOLD fast).

Rather heartwrenching hearing a 3yr old upset, all the way back to the car, "I wanna catch all the fish". Out of at least a dozen trips in the last 9 months, this is the first time I've taken him fishing where he didn't catch SOMETHING, so this is the first "fishin isn't always catchin" speach I've had to give him. Don't think he quite understood what I meant, and hope he is still enthused to go this spring when the weather gets warmer and the trout action heats up. (and he has a brand new birthday rod/reel to use!)

Still, once I got south of Rainier heading to the river, the skies cleared and it was sunny and beautiful, if not a bit cold. Nice day to be out and not stuck in the house, and with him in tow. I know he enjoyed getting out, probably more than I did, despite the lack of fish caught.

Had the great pleasure of fishing with a forum member, jd39 today and we had a blast! saw practically zero people on the river, and although the river is WAY to low and fishing is slow, he managed his first ever steelhead today! a nice hatchery chromer hen, followed by a darker but still nice buck for a steelhead limit before noon, we lost another fish also. Nice day, although cold in the morning, the sun came out and it warmed us (and the fish) up and ended up being a great morning. all on eggs today

Wow nice job danny! Pretty neat that you can juggle college and fishing, and it all works out.
