Regarding lake report alerts...

Post by The Quadfather » Sat Jan 19, 2013 9:07 am

There is a place on walakes.com where you can sign up for an email notification when a report gets posted on your pre-chosen body of water. I can't remember where this feature is located? I am also wondering if people feel like this feature is working idealy still at this time. It was a few years ago when I signed up for that. I am almost certain that it is hit and miss now. Occaisonally I get a notification for a Greenlake report.... but then I used to get them for Lake WA. and I no longer do, etc.

It's in your profile setting/selections.

Yes I like it, that way I don't have to go look if there is a comment, same with when I get a PM.

The Report Alerts function was broken and was not functioning until very recently. We had no idea it had stopped sending out reports until someone reported it.

Oh, so THAT'S why I wasn't getting any. :-k

Oh ya, don't you have to MAKE a report to get an alert of a comment?

I haven't made a report in a couple months, haven't caught a fish since Nov. [biggrin]

Yes, you have to make a report to get alerted to comments made on it, but those are just comment notifications, not Report Alerts.

They're located in the main menu under Members>Alerts.

Darn, I had to go back and read that again, he's talking about LAKES, not comments to the fishing reports. I think I'll go back to bed and take another nap. I've been up for a whole 2 hours plus now.

Aaron, thanks for pointing me to the "Members Alerts" tab to see my requested Lake Report alerts. I do see that I have the same max. 10 bodies of water requested for notification of reports... but I should tell you that none of these ever alert me when there is a report.
i.e. Lake WA. and Green lake have reports all the time, but no alert is being sent.
So, just and FYI, it appears to not be working.

Thanks for your help

There hasn't been a report for either lake since the Alerts were fixed. I'm sure you'll receive an Alert once there is a report posted.

I think the report alert function is still broken, at least for me. When I try to add an alert for Columbia Basin section 17, 18, & 19 I get a comment that says "You already have an alert for that area" yet the box below states, "No Columbia Basin Alerts Found". I tried to add them again, but get the same already have an alert response. There have been Lake Roosevelt reports posted for section 18 & 19 in the past few days and I have not gotten any report alerts. I used to get comment alerts too, but never get them anymore either.

Do I need to reset something, and if so, where?

Sorry about the troubles the site has been having. We had a bit of a meltdown a few months ago and a ton of code was lost... so I've been replacing it as I find it... I'm pretty sure I have all the problems with the Alerts resolved now but you'll have to wait until later tonight for me to upload them. There's too many users during the middle of the day for me to take things offline.

So there was a Columbia Basin report this morning that was approved, but the Alerts for it did not go out.

The screen for setting up the Alerts is now working... but apparently the Alert code has something going on that I'll look into later today.

I'm pretty sure I've fixed all the known issues with the Alerts. I am now able to create and delete Columbia Basin alerts and receive them in my email when a new one is received.

Let me know if you have any further issues with this.

Looks like you got it fixed. I was able to add alerts so I'll be able to confirm next time a Roosevelt report is submitted.

There has been a few area 18 and 19 reports since this post. Did you receive the Alerts?

You may have been asking that question of Phil? But I can say that I did start getting my lake WA. reports a week ago... but I have to watch closely again. There was one a few days ago, and can't recall if it came via an alert or not.
Thanks for your help though. =D>

You're welcome. I've not logged a single error in regards to the Alerts since I fixed them, and I have received every Alert for all the areas I have set up.

Thought this was broken again as I saw Blufin Louie posted a Rufus Woods report and I didn't get an alert. Double checked my alerts, and yep, Columbia River section 17 is still selected. Then I remembered Rufus Woods is also listed as a lake in Douglas County too. Blufin reported under that option, not Columbia river section 17 and that's why the alert didn't show up. :-"
