Another bad day at the Kapowsin Lake boat launch

Post by rickydbasser » Tue Oct 09, 2012 1:28 pm

Went to Kapowsin Lake last Friday. Heard about all the break-ins there. And this was backed up when I saw all the shards of broken window glass up in the parking area. Made sure I had no valuables in my truck, and just left in unlocked. Wasn't enough....When I came back to get my truck to load up my boat found that my drivers side rain visor over my door had been ripped off. Ofcourse, because of the heavy glue holding it, only a part came off, breaking the rest, pealing the paint, and leaving a mess. To replace it costs $54.00 for a pair, which is the only way you can buy them, not to mention the paint damage. I will never go back to that lake again. Nothing but a run down old town full of meth heads. And a boat launch where the parking area is up the hill away from where anything can be seen. So sad. I was raised in Kapowsin, worked as a logger for St. Regis for 18 years, and it was a nice community. How things have changed. Like I said, I will never fish that lake again.

Man, that sucks. I'm sorry to hear about your truck. Sad that these great little places are now home to low-lifes and tweakers.

That sux. It's like we need to go in groups and take turns fishing and watching our rigs. Hmmm, that's not a bad idea...

 That's a good idea. How many people can we get together? When are we going?

Would it be fair to tow the boat trailer down there with no boat and just park it while you hide in the bushes and watch through the scope? :-"

If LE does it, it's called a sting. If you do it, it's called a trap. A lot of time at the "Hotel" for charges that start with "Conspiracy to.....". It's those subjective crimes that really get ya.

Stories like this keep me from returning. I like the lake, just not worth the risk. Some good ideas tho... :-k

Sounds like a WA lakers tailgate party to me!! =D> We're in!
The fish that got away, gains at least 2 lbs a day. It's science.

Ya, unlike a true tailgate party. There would be a whole lot of "SHhhhhhhhhn" goin on! LOL!

That very thing happened to me at the Lake Shoecraft boat launch. All that was visible in the cab of my truck. Was a fresh load of folded laundry. Someone broke in for that! Took it too! The entire basket, skivies and all. Pathetic.

Shoecraft is a bad one. Just a little too secluded and you can't see it from the lake.

One of the strangest boat ramps I have ever dealt with. All dirt, very narrow waterway leaving limited launch space. Plenty deep. Then shallows from launch to lake.

Every time I have launched my 17' lund Fish N Ski model. I have had to jump out of the boat at the shallow part. Walk the boat, and occupants (weight forward) through that section, and jump back in when deep enough to motor out into the lake.

Say Bodo, ever find big bass or trout in there?

this type of stuff makes you want to go vigilante. we had our cherokee broke into last month right in front of the restaurant while we had dinner. barely 30 minutes, broad daylight, and packed with halloween costumes and overnight baggage. one broken window and $3k in stolen goods.

is the private boat launch at Kapow still available? I kinda grew up on this lake. one of the first lakes i remember fishing with dad and brothers, and the first public place I duck hunted.

went to the lake this morning to take a look at the new ramp. not a fishing day but was in the area. glass from a smashed window in the upper parking lot a litter down by the dock. several vehicles were there with and without trailers thogh I didn't see a single boat out there. saw several trout jumping.

Yes, it all sucks badly. I agree there is a portion of each of us that wants to set up a "Sting operation"
But seriously, you have to ask yourself what are you prepared to do in the event of a conflict?
I don't pretend to know the law any more than any one of us on here. I can speculate though that confronting a criminal, and engaging in ass-whooping would probably leave one of us open to charges of some sort via the criminal himself!
I don't know what the answer is honestly. Nobody wants to just except being a victim, but standing there and calling 911 sounds like a joke as well. Hiding behind Smith and Wesson only opens you to a lot of paperwork and your own defense attorney.
