Salmon River O.P. "Secret Location!"

Post by Mike Carey » Fri Oct 19, 2012 3:30 pm

NEWS FLASH****

The Salmon River is NOT a "secret spot"!

So I posted a fishing report on the Salmon River (O.P., not a "secret spot", NEWS FLASH) and promptly got a PM from a member lambasting me for posting about this river that Nate Treat showed me (NEWS FLASH - The Salmon River on the O.P. holds steelhead and salmon - NEWS FLASH!).

Anyway, Nate totally gave me the OK to post this report AND to include video footage in our upcoming video (NEWS FLASH - YES, there are SALMON in the Salmon River!)

In any case, I didn't mark any Hot Spots (maybe then the member would actually have a reason to complain) so you'll have to decide where in the 10+ miles of river we were fishing.

Here's the member's PM to me:

Hey its cause of ppl like you posting "secret spots" like a noob fisherman on the internet and ask why is there sooooooo much garbage??? or i used to like fishing this hole! Thanks for posting it you 99er.Do everyone a favor and keep the secret spots to yourself!!! NOOB...

BTW, I didn't see any garbage when we were there.

NEWS FLASH!!! Nate will be happy to guide you on this secluded O.P. river to catch SALMON and STEELHEAD. Be aware, it will require hiking and crossing the river in numerous spots.

So, if the member that sent me this PM wants to have a friendly forum debate about what constitutes a "secret spot" feel free to post and intelligently defend your PM. Otherwise, the only noob I see is you.

BTW - Salmon River - HOLDS Salmon, and Steelhead!!!! - NEWS FLASH

I may very well go through and post every river in Washington that holds salmon and steelhead...

wow.

HAHAH thats hilarious. I could see if you maybe slayed the fish, told everyone EXACTLY where to go how to get there and showed pics of the place, but just a report for the river? And it was a 1 star report? Doesnt even make any sense! hahahahaha

yes, well, I guess telling people a river called the Salmon River holds salmon is irresponsible. [-X

Some people's kids. [scared]

Mike, how dare you post informative and helpful fishing information on a fishing forum! [-X I might just have to notify the moderators. I'm sure the creators of this site didn't intend for it to be a place to share such things! Absolutely atrocious. [flapper]

The Salmon River is the hatchery creek for the Queets, and yes it has a large return of fish, and no there aren't a lot of people that fish it. Sometimes it's not easy to fish, and sometimes it has fish in some spots more than others. Is it well known? Not as much as other spots. But so what! There are fish in a bunch of rivers, and there are big fish in this one!

I got my share of hate mail from that too, Mike. Just checked my inbox, and it's not the first time I've been yelled at through PM for sharing "Secrets". That's my job! Short of blindfolding you, walking you down the bank, hooking a fish for you and handing you the rod, how else am I going to guide you to fish? The Olympic Peninsula has an amazing amount of fish in it! And there are thousands of miles of rivers to fish out there, 4 hours from Seattle. I've spent my whole life out there and I'm still finding "secret" spots, hidden treasures and I'm not even done exploring! So yep, if you want to benefit from my secret experience, come on out and I'll fish with you! The fish are there for all of us to have fun with, not just the few.

My pleasure. These places are available for everyone to enjoy. If you're willing to explore and learn these rivers more power to you. Classifying an entire river as a "secret" is ludicrous. #-o

BTW, to those of you that think it's OK to use the PM system on this web site to contact and harass other members, be warned. Your IP will be banned and you can go complain on other web sites. You're not welcome and we don't want you here. When you became a member on this site you specifically agreed to the terms and conditions of usage. LOL this one is funny.

Of course the river holds salmon and your report wouldn't send the wave of people that descended on the Tahuya cuz luckily U got skunked. Had U caught a limit and included pics I hope you would think twice about reporting simply in that it is a small river system with few people fishing it. It is far enough away and secluded enough to hopefully keep the weekend warrior crowd out.

All that said, a couple things I'll mention all in friendly manner-

I personally am guessing the Noob comment was meant only in that you were new to the Salmon and there have only been 2 reports on the system INCLUDING yours. So that makes most reporting people Noobs (i.e. don't take it too hard). U aren't a Noob to fishing OBVIOUSLY but certainly were to the Salmon while Nate was/is not a Noob to it.

Noob comment aside, this is probably someone (I'm guessing) that has fished it for some time and often finds/has found very few people fishing it if any and it is a smaller river system. Then they see a report go up for the first time in YEARS, only the second time EVER on the rpeorts section and it's early in the season so they immediately go "Oh Snap!" and blame the messenger regardless of the info (or lack thereof).

Their tone certainly wasn't very gracious LOL #-o but at the same time your posting their private message in a public forum I'd say is not too cool either. ](*,)

So let's call it even between U 2, let them remain anonymous and I'll go back to not fishing LOL ](*,) #-o ](*,) ](*,)

Like R. ton said, no reason to waste a ton of gas to hike around in the woods to not catch fish in a low bag limit river [flapper] .

And if U want to waste the gas and time to hike around in the woods for tiny bag limits then you might as well spend a little more to PM Nate/schedule a trip to accompany you since it can be potentially very dangerous out there if you don't know the river...

PS- whomever PMd Mike- [wub] LOL Gotta be an oldtimer with years of experience on that river. Love those gruff guys/gals that put in their time on the smaller systems and defend them tooth and nail...

Good luck to all.
