Tench

Post by D-ROCK » Sat Sep 01, 2012 6:27 pm

Here's a new one I caught this week on Lake Washington. I am almost certain it is a Tench. This one was several lbs although I didn't weigh it. It had red eyes and a downward facing mouth. The fins were round, the skin was a dark green, and the scales were small.

Awesome fish! I've always wanted to catch a Tench! Do you mind if I ask how you fish for them-- same strategies you'd use for carp?

I caught him bottom fishing for perch by mistake. Jigging a Simple worm with a small weight just outside the weed beds. My dad has caught several by accident this way while perch fishing on Lake Washington. Certainly a pretty fish.

Yeah i use to catch them on worm with a float, unlike carp where i would use either bread, corn or boile's.

Are tench related to carp, or just look alot alike? How about the fight they put up?

Looks like a cross between a catfish and a carp.
