huntnislife.......You da man!! Just when I think your hat is full of nothing but fish, you start pulling rabitts out of the hat. I love it.
BTW... With this new hunting forum,, maybe there could be some kind of contest with a person being the first to bring in with an O'Tay sign, 5 various URBAN critters. I'm thinking like possum, city rat, (I know that there are a few red fox still living in Lincoln park, West Seattle) It's just a thought.

I have 2 favorite hunting pictures but here is the black tail I shot on my fisrt hunting trip ever. The other pic I got I have to mess with to resize =( when I posted my black tail pic it didnt show up it just has a link you can click on to see it. Is there anyone who can help me so I can get it on there so everyone can see it?

i know most of you wont believe me but one day me and my dad were out hunting wabbits and i had my dads 22. "hornet" (more powder than a standard or magnum .22 rimfire) and i took a shot at a rabbit in my meadow and when i walked up to it i had two rabbits lying dead on the ground. one had been blown nearely to peaces from the allready split bullet that had gone through the first rabbit. sorry i dont have a picture but it was so awsome

Sweet shot Max. I don't hunt myself, but I am a pretty good shot with my BB gun.

here a picture from last year's huntin season. this was opening day of archery. it was a 35 yard shot uphill and turned out to a heck of deer hunt.

How fun would that really be though? Are you going to eat the squirrel, how about the pigeon? What you kill you should eat and take everything you can from it. Have fun eating squirrel. Elk, deer, etc. -- killing these animals - at least you can eat them and use them...I'm not sure how you'd feel if you were that squirrel with a .22 lodged in its body. I guess if you think cooked squirrel tastes good go for it! Killing for just the thrill of killing is pretty messed up.

I'm not saying I'd go running about shooting dozens of animals and decimate the population. I agree, after a while, it wouldn't be fun. Lots of kids started off shooting their first gun (probably a .22 their dad gave em) at coke cans and some small animals around the farm....Squirrels aren't exactly elk. It's like comparing killing a yellow perch to a salmon...

You can go on and rant about hunting and fishing and killing animals and the ethics of it all, and your going to get a lot of different opinions...Everyone has their own and I respect each and everyones opinions...

Catch and release (talking fishing now) isn't exactly going to guarantee 100% survival of fish. I've read many studies and reports of actual field tests on multiple species of fish that show the mortality rate of released fish. I've seen VERY low rates in certain studies and with some species, (less then 2%) and some reports with over 25% mortality rates in released fish. Now I fish a lot. Close to 100 days per year. I do not catch and release every SINGLE fish I catch, but the majority of the time, I am releasing my fish. Probably 85 or 90% of the fish I catch are released. I usually ONLY keep what I feel like cleaning, preparing and eating. My family really only likes eating salmon and saltwater bottomfish. Myself, however, I eat about everything in the sea. So I usually only keep fish when I am 100% going to eat the fish and if my family decides they want some, I'll keep enough so that they, and myself can eat it. I take full measures to make sure that the fish I release are going to have their best chance of survival. I use barbed hooks quite a bit now, I minimize the time a fish spends out of the water, I do not hold fish vertically (only bass) and I use knotless, rubber nets and follow all regulations like when it says to keep wild salmon in the water because they are illegal to keep, I do so and quickly slip the hook out of the fishes mouth and return it to the water.

If I'm fishing 100 days a year, I'm probably catching upwards of a few hundred, if not over thousand fish a year. Assuming a 5% mortality rate, and say I release 1000 fish per year, I'm going to be killing approximately 50 of those 1000 fish. I am fine with this. I understand that some fish WILL die as a result of being hooked, fought, and released. I'm fine with accidentally killing a couple dozen fish per year as a result of me trying to make sure that they are released safely. If I wasn't ok with it, I wouldn't fish. I'm also fine with shooting a few .22 bullets through rodents and squirrels and rabbits. Just my opinions/feelings. I've never done it before and I probably never will, and if I did, I wouldn't be that distraught over it....
