On a pikeminnow the corner of the mouth comes back to the eye, while on the peamouth, the corner of the mouth is well before the eye.

Yep, once snow provided a name, I was able to search and confirm myself.
Thanks snow!

looks like what I used to call a creek chub
Re: What Kind Of Fish Is This?
Definately a Northern Pikeminnow or Squaw. Same fish, two names. They get HUGE! Fun to catch. No limit and theres even a bounty on them in the Columbia as they are an invasive species.

Re: What Kind Of Fish Is This?
Ya, I never knew what a peabrain looked like. I figured they looked similar to a bluegill, ya know 'pea' = small, so the fish must be small.
Ok, ok, 'peamouth'.
I wonder how many peamouths I caught thinking they were squawfish. Now I know anyway.

I've been thinking it was some sort of whitefish when I pull them out of Lk WA while fishing for perch.... I knew the squaw fish had a bigger mouth. Your link cleared up the mystery...... peamouth.......... another fertilizer fish......... ;)

Re: What Kind Of Fish Is This?
Its a Hybrid. Mix of a pikeminnow and a peamouth. There are lots of crossbreads like these in the river. Ive ran into Pikeminnow that where part chizzlemouth / chub. as well. it happens...
