Fishing in Steilacoom Lake (Washington)

Help! anybody have any idea how NOT to catch rock bass and perch. I live on Stelicoom lake and i love fishing but all i catch is small panfish. I tried making my bait bigger but the small fish still took it. I am trying to catch bigger fish such as trout, kokanee,Largemouth Bass, catfish and carp (im not sure if there even is any catfish or carp in the lake. I have a small boat and tried different spots but i always end up catching fish that are not even six inches long. Anybody have any tips?

Change your location to deeper water. For bass use big jigs and such.

I agree, deep is the only way to get away from em. They will hit anything that moves in front of them, aggressive little.... Another option is to bring an ultralight and embrace the rock bass onslaught! LOL

thanks but how do you tell which part of the lake is deeper? Also where should i look for bass? sorry about all of the questions im sort of new to fishing

Check the lake maps here on WaLakes, should have a topo map of the lake. Then a depth finder. Look at the shoreline, if it's flat the lake should have a shallow slope to the bottom, if the shoreline is steep and hilly, the lake bottom should be steeper and deeper, usually.

i know where to go now, but do i just drop my worm to the bottom or should i use a crankbait or a spoon or any other baits?
