Mitchell 300 (old school version)

Does anybody out there collect the old style Mitchell 300 reels? I am talking about the ones made from the early 1960's until about the early 1980's. -- the ones after that were nothing special at all. They were a fine reel, and those of you who grew up with this may remember.
I have maybe 5 of them in various states of condition. I recently bought one off of ebay that was unused, still in the box with paperwork, from the I think 1961 ish.
Anyway, if anybody needs one for parts etc. I could part out from my excess reels. (bail spring etc.)

The one shown looks a little crusty, but if in good condition they shweet.

Funny you brought this up. I was just given one, an early 60's 300 that was my grandmothers, and when she passed my grandfather gave it to me. It looks as if it was rarely used, barely a knick in the paint. How much did you pay for the mint one from eBay? Im not looking to off load, but a value might be nice.

I caught many a Steelhead on the Mitchell 300 with a Sammy Special on my Eagle Claw rod.WOW this brings back memories.

Yeah, that's cool that some people on here remember/know this reel. You asked what I paid on Ebay. I think it was around $45.00 give or take a bit. It was seriously never used. If you can imagine how dorky/dated the paperwork that came with it was. It gave your written guarantees on quality, and dated looking drawing of characters casting. It is also one of those things that has a following, there websites of Mitchell freaks out there...

I wore two 300's out along with another version that had a fork for the reel seat.

I also grew up using a Mitchell 300. It was a great reel. Caught allot of fish on it.

I have a few Mitchell 300 reels and still use them. Mostly now I use the newer models but still use the old ones now and then.

For Mitchell reels check out this site....serious collector...You can copy and post this to your browser... or just click http://home.orange.nl/otto.klaasen/index.htm I have several Mitchells that I have used for many years. It was "the Reel" for steelheading back in the 60's...Good ol' days!

I started collecting, but I trout fish with an abu garca colonol / 300 from 72ish and a value village w&M steelie / unused 300A this year. I am saving the old halfbail 300 in the spare parts tackle box that works just fine! If I sold them I would end up spending the extra cash on bill anyway!

Maybe the value village w&M steelie / unused 300A are the answer to my river steelhead setup post! Or I could put my extra 300 my grandpas Harnell!
That's just my style of keepin it old school!

You guys got me to thinking about my Mitchell reel. It's a blue model 406 with FRANCE stamped on the reel foot, and a 6 digit serial # with no letter for a prefix. According to what I could figure from one of the websites offered is that it was made sometime up to 1956. It still works perfectly.

I keep seeing about the OLD 300's. I grew up with that reel. Still, open them up and see if the gears are metal or plastic. That is the best date of that real. Especially if you can tell what metal the gears are.

I also have a Mitchell 300 that I've had for a number of years. I was just looking at it and considering respooling it for this season. You've got me convinced now.

Here are my fish slayers I use for the lakes! 1. green garca colonol / 300 from 72ish, 60 zebco 606 and unknown 5'-6" green fiberglass rod, and the value village brown w&M steelie / new condition 300A.
