Went out today and did have issues with the motor but I did manage a limit.

Almost, as part of our spring upgrades we decided to replace everything from the trailer bunks on up. Sea trials are scheduled for Saturday and if all goes well, I’ll do the rigging next week. When all is done, I’ll share some pictures and thoughts on why an upgrade was in order. Heck, maybe I’ll even be able submit regular fish reports again. I have numerous new lure designs to try out so am looking forward to getting our spring upgrades over with and back to fishing.

Well I just vacuumed out my boat. Took all of 3 minutes. But I found a wear hole in the front carpet, so I guess I'll have to replace the carpeting on the front deck this summer. That's gonna be a pain due to the additional decking I installed. Oh well, it's been looking crappy for a few years now. Gotta spend my money on something, might as well be the boat. LOL

Changed to a new style of hooks on one crankbait to see if I can stop losing all the big fish, like I did last year.

Now off to the lake.:cheers:

Do ya think I was a little overdue on changing the spark plugs? YIKES!!!

On the left is one of the "new" spark plugs that was in the boat when I bought it one year ago TODAY!!!

You catch WAY more fish in your little boat with your little 4 hp motor than you do in my big boat with the 285 hp motor!!! Those are some great looking Kokes!!!

Yeah, a guy said the exact same thing on PP... and I totally hear ya! I bought the boat one year ago today and fully intended to do all of this maintenance BEFORE I ever put it in the water! But instead, I've had the boat out fishing almost every free day I've had since I bought it. And as Toni can testify, I've become quite an expert at getting skunked....

That's ok, I got skunked again today. Second trip, second skunk. But I DID get a nice strike, but it didn't want to hook up. 15 foot of water on a deep diving crankbait. Image Getting closer. Too bad the wind came up soon after I got on the lake. 45 degree water temp.

I assume at Sawyer?

I just installed the new trolling motor today. 4 bolts, wasnt so bad. Just need to put some gas in the boat and hope the main motor starts....Image

Hopefully next week.

Them otters out there can really mess up a decent morning of fishing. Had the hot bite last summer and then they appeared and the fish disapeared. Next morning opposite side same thing.:rambo: Fun to watch till they take the fun.

Wow!!! That took a lot longer and way more effort than I thought it would.... but I finally got Clifford running!!! Tup:

Clifford sounds WAY different with a fully functioning carburetor!!!

Ford 351 Redline VIDEO

I found some really interesting stuff while working on the boat! The previous owner tried to save a few bucks and took a short cut. The solenoid must have failed on the starter at some point. But rather than buying a whole new marine starter motor with a marine solenoid, the previous owner bought a standard Ford solenoid and jury rigged it on the back of the motor. Having that extra solenoid connected to the starter I just bought in August, probably fried both of 'em. I took the extra standard Ford solenoid off, threw it away, and connected straight from my three way switch to the new solenoid on my new starter motor. It fired right up... no problem.

Tomorrow I get to try out the new trim tabs and kicker motor bracket!!!

Took Clifford out to Black Lake last night after work... it definitely runs better with the electric choke connected.
I noticed a big difference from the Smart Tabs. After we got them adjusted, the boat planed a lot quicker and at a much lower speed. Top speed was 39.3 mph. Cruised at 30 mph at 3850 rpm, compared to before: 30 mph at 4050. That should save some gas!

I upgraded from a 1985 14 ft row boat,to a 2005 16 ft osprey.took it out on washington sunday and had problems getting on plane.Finally got on plane and went around mercer island.only got to 32 mph with a 60 horse yamaha 4-stroke.stoped to troll a little ,then it would not plane.limped in and went home.called mobil mechanic and one of the coils is not firing corectely.so my conclusion is i am definitly not ready.
