2010/11 Season River Trophies

Yall need to check regs and fins!!!!! The steelhead is clipped and therefore legal to hold out of the water.....And in the Samish, it's legal to keep wild kings, therefore, legal to hold out of the water!!! Right or wrong, we've all done it so let the kid enjoy sharing his trophys with us. I'm not condoning the act of breaking the laws, but the way i see it, none were broken. Its the ones who get their tropy shots then help the fish on its way with a size 12 boot that this rule was meant for. 20 seconds out for a pic and a smooth transition back to the water does no more harm to the fish than the battle it just went through. This thread has gone way wrong and the subject of wild release photos has been beaten like a dead horse. Lets get it back to sharing our accomplishments and keep the purist comments to our selves.

I don't really want to split hairs but the regs say you can't remove ANY steelhead/salmon/dolly from the water UNLESS you keep it, clipped or otherwise.

I complimented on the kids fish (even though that king is a boot) so I didn't mean any harm. I mean c'mon, if you explicitly say "don't give me a hard time about this" I am definately gunna give you a hard time, you're setting yourself up for it! And that's all it was, just poking fun, but it is actually not legal, nonetheless.

Personally I dont like Matt much. Its my oppinion. But hes right on this one. I could care less if he holds the fish out and dont take em home. He personally should have just posted the pics and been done with it. He opened himself up for this. But I mean cmon guys, if youre gonna tell someone that you know the rules and you dont have a clue or think ya have a clue of the regs take a look first. Some peoples kids I tell ya.

Alright, that was a good one, but back to some fish now. caught a 11lb hen in my secret river this morning. She has good color, but was already loosing her eggs when i killed her. Good smoker at least

Nice job man! But you know by starting out with pigs like that, you are just setting yourself up for future dissapointment when catching those cookie cutter 8-10# hatchery fish..

Matt, I appreciate your tact. I have a lot of respect for the guide that I've been fishing with and getting to know. His explanation to me was more about definetely not taking a large female, due to the loss of all those potential eggs from the system. His point was that there will always be another male around the corner to fertilize a large females eggs.
While I would agree that a large buck carries some of his own "Large" genes into the chemistry.... I kind of defaulted to his explanation, and being that this was only the second one I've caught.
That being said, I hope that future posters don't turn this into a debate about biology and the right or wrong of the guides explanation.

Hi everyone! I'm new to this forum, even though some of you might recognize me from other sites.

For my first post, I'll put up a picture of my brother's first Sturgeon, which he caught 1/19/2011. It's been on his bucket list for years, and we finally got 'er done!



I would also like to be able to post a photo of my best friend's first Steelhead ever, but posting pictures of Steelhead seems to be a very sensitive subject and I'd rather not cause any controversy. I'll just say, I talked him into his first Steelheading trip ever, we met on the Clearwater in Idaho and fished with a great guide. My best friend caught the first Steelhead of the day, the most Steelhead, and the biggest Steelhead! A day we'll remember and appreciate for years to come!
