Yeah I know wasn't trying to start anything was just wondering. Just seems that they are getting lazy at cutting fins properly.

I have seen a few like that this year too. Don't they run em through a machine to clip em? Thought I read something like that.

I do believe that they do and I would imagine there is a margin for error but you think there would be a quality checker or something along the process.

and if they don't do a quality check through the process I would be more than happy to volunteer some time at some of these places to help out.

Regardless if they are poorly cut or not cut at all. I dont think Id show pictures on the net with 90% of adipose showing. Other peeps may feel bad about pointing this out but In my eyes both pics were showing Native Steel. Dont like it Too bad.Everyone always reads the rules some are just wanting a fish more then others. My neighbor crabs in the San Juans. He brought me 8 dungies. 3 were females. Hes a Lawyer. He knows the rules. Its just that peeps twist rules from time to time . Even I do. Im not claiming perfection on my part.

I'll make this clear. My fish that I caught last Sunday was a Hatchery. A few of you guys are ridiculous. I am offended that I'd even be questioned that my fish was a Native. Like I said, if I did catch one, you can be damn sure I wouldn't take it out of the water. Anyways...

If you think that's an intact adipose fin, you don't know what you are talking about, and have probably never actually seen an intact adipose fin.

We don't even know if it was a Washington Steelhead... My bet is it’s not.
Sorry if there's hurt feelings. We all know the rules here in Washington and especially here on WL.com and none of us would ever make that kind of mistake.

Jens, this seems like a misunderstanding that maybe getting more heated than need be. I didn't read anything into the question that suggested you didn't know better. Honestly, it just sounded like Scott was curious. Maybe he didn't recognize the bank and was trolling for a hint to the river you were fishing?

Racfish, I'm sure you are aware that there are a few rivers on the OP where you can keep a nate if you are so inclined. So even if someone posted a pic like that of an unmarked fish, it may be totally withing the regs to do so. I think it's great he did post the pic just so folks who may not know the ins and the outs of hatchery fish marking can get a bit more info on the subject.

Also, just a FYI to all readers, some hatcheries don't clip the adipose fin on a steelhead at all, they clip one of the ventral fins. This is covered in the regs under differentiating hatchery from wild steelhead I'm sure a few of you remember the days when they used to clip the dorsal fin so that when you stood it up it was rectangular instead of rhombus shaped.

Fished the snoqualmie today, stayed away from Tokul for the most part. However I did drop a hotshot in there a few times. I left the eggs at home today in hopes to gain confidence in jigs and spoons. But unfortunatley after lots of walking and fishing not so much as a grab or a bobber down. I heard of 3 fish out of the creek, fishing pressure was pretty light.
