Does anybody have.... use Swedish Pimples?

Post by The Quadfather » Fri Jan 28, 2011 7:23 pm

I picked up a couple of those lures called, The Swedish Pimple. I had heard some good things about them at one time or another. Does anybody out there use these? In what kind of water conditions, trolling, cast and retrieve, jigging?:shaking:

A lot of guys use them to jig trout through the ice around here. I am pretty sure they are mostly for jigging:salut:

Taz, come to think of it... I remember that I found them in tackle store, next to the ice rods. I thought this was a little weird because they look like a thick spoon. Curious though if anyone fishes them via tossing or trolling.

i use them for jigging under the ice, primarily. but have also had luck catching smallmouth, perch and even a 30" pike from under the dock across from my boat slip. sunny, heat of the day, doesn't seem to matter. very versatile, very nice weight for casting too.

Quad, I think I've got one in my tackle box. My brother and his buddy use to use them religiously in the SE Washington lakes and streams for trout. They were good producers. I can't say I've ever tried the one I have....might be time.

They are my best producer for perch when jigging under the ice and adding a perch eyeball.

I like to use the small ones for Panfish and Trout.
The bigger ones work real well for Walleye.
I use them for vertical jigging, never tried trolling or casting them.
I also remove the hook and tie on 3/4 inch of mono.
Then tie a ice jig on the mono with a bit of bait, this work pretty good for ice fishing.

Might work well for just about anything, tie it to a line and drag it thru some water, what's the action like? If it looks good to you, you'll find some fish to bite it! LOL I'm guessing kokes would love seeing that thing behind a boat!

I have a couple and have trolled them for kokanee with some success. I usually stick to needlefish though. If you cast them out and use a twitch/stop-and-go retrieve they work pretty good for fish up near the top, I have casted them for jumping Kokanee and done well.

The only times that I've used them is trout fishing thru the ice. Vertical jigging.

i grew up in upstate new york, i used to fish with them and teardrops(smaller jigging spoon)through the ice.. and yes the perch eyeball tipped on the swedish pimple is excellent for perch, tipped with maggots also works, ive mostly caught perch and panfish, but have occasionally caught walleye, chain pickerel, and large mouth bass also, i would imagine they would work for any species through the ice, and i could believe that people catch fish with them during the summer too..i think they are best used jigging through the ice though.

I used them for fall Lake WA perch. I have a pimple on the bottom and two hooks tied dropshot style above with little grubs on them. Works for perch when you find them on the fishfinder.

They use them back in the Great Lakes fishing for Browns. Cast and jig or under a bobber. For the fly guys, that's an indicater......

PS seen them used with a fly rod in smallish rivers.

I have several and use them for vertical jigging, through ice or off the boat. I've caught bass, perch, bluegill, crappie, walleye, and trout with them. Although they can be used as is, I usually tip them with some type of bait. Such as a piece of worm, raw shrimp, etc. Buy some and keep them in your tackle.

Wow Chris do I feel stupid now..... I looked a the pic you posted and that's nothing like what I've seen called a swedish pimple. Looks nice but the ones I've seen used were more like a little crappy jig. The bigger ones had a size 6 or 4 1/16th oz jig with a short little rubber squid skirt.

Well, mine looks like the picture, but it's got gold instead of blue. Tried trolling it on Beaver Lake a couple weeks ago, but didn't get any hits. Of course not much was hitting that day, so can't say it was the lure.
