Wait until you get into a big King if you don't have Mono as a backing. I did that last season and was wondering why I was reeling and wasn't gaining any ground on my fish. I could spin the entire line because it wasn't gripping the reel. You really only need about 100 yds of braid IMO. My reel is backed with over 100yds of mono and then I put on the 150 yd of 15lb test.scott080379 wrote:I have never had a problem with my line spinning on the spool but that is a darn good idea.

RE:summer metalheads.
That's why Tuf-line s like 14$ for 300 yds of 65# test. But that's what I'm using right now and havent had a problem (so far). I will probably go back to PowerPro though.jens wrote: That's what I've heard about that line as well. I will add my experiment using Tuf-line ended up going in the garbage. That stuff is cheap and frays real easy. PowerPro all the way.
RE:summer metalheads.
the thing is u hook a pig king like outta the samish, sky, puke, skagit, with fish that are taken in the 30's every year you hook into one and u dont have control of that line u are done. watched a guy this year on the skagit hook into a fish easily over 35 and he had braid we watch him reel and reel and reel nothing happened and the fish eventualy brok his leader. but u neet to have control of ur braid.

RE:summer metalheads.
I use the same size as the braid so for me 30 pound mono backing, 30 pounder power pro and for knots i just tie them together and test them until they wont break and it hasnt failed so far
My rod and reel, they comfort me.

RE:summer metalheads.
I have never had a problem with a blood knot on braid. hell I have seen it used on down riggers and hold with 12 poind ball plus the drag while trolling and 15 pound nook taht didn't pop off the rigger.
eitherway both knots will work. I might try the uni knot on my other rod

RE:summer metalheads.
stay away from cabela's ripcord braid too!!! i got sum last season cuz it was on sale, an it didn't matter what knot i tied the stuff kept breakin. not to mention when the chums where in my line froze on minter creek and it puffed way up (looked like green dacron). i'll never buy anything other than power pro again!
i usually use bout 15 yds of 12lb for my backing and haven't had any probs goin that lite yet.

Fishing relaxes me. It's like yoga, except i still get to kill something.
RE:summer metalheads.
there is another knot that is amazing for braid it holds reallly well for tying to swivels and weights

Great knot. Seems very simple to tie. What I'm wondering is where is that river he's tying that knot on?

RE:summer metalheads.
Has anyone used the proverbial pink worm of death and it actually worked? And how did you rig yours up? And what brand/kind of pink worm did you use? When is the best time to use them?
Here's a video I found on rigging up a pink worm . . .
