Need help with a dry rub for brisket.......
Hey guys and gals, I'm gonna do a brisket tomorrow on the smoker/bbq. I need your help. If any of you have a great dry rub and want to share it would be appreciated. I've never really used rubs before and would like to try one on a brisket. Thanks in advance.

Tommy,A dry rub can be made from anything you have in the kitchen,but,I would go with a mixture of,salt,brown sugar,garlic powder,onion powder,pepper black and white if you have both,paprika(smoked).Rub the heck out of it and throw it in the frig overnite and you should have one fine brisket!...and for the next time you want to do a rub check out spicebarn.com they are a small family run biz I have been using for years there stuff is great.......good luck,Alan

OH MAN...take it eeeeasy....salt 'n pepper maybe a lil cayenne pepper....
and use "good" salt not that iodized garbage YUK....
i never put annny sugar in a rub because your bark will get wayyyy to black 'n it should be the best eat'n part of the meat...
ya just cant beat a good salt 'n pepper for a sloowwww cook kind of meat like brisket..
you could throw in a lil lowery's if ya want or a herb your fond of....
but realllllly the fire/smoke is the flavor your look'n for when do'n the slooowww cook...
just my 35 cents worth butttt....
i lived in Tx for bout 7 years 'n u can get linched for screw'n up a good piece of beef there LOLOLOL..

Dog and Alan thanks for the tips. I kinda created a rub w the basic stuff that island fisherman had said. I used coarse salt, pepper, garlic powder, cumin, chili powder, and a little brown sugar. A rub with those ingredients was recommended to my by a good buddy of mine. Its been on the grill since about 2300 hours with a little hickory/cherry wood combo We will see how it turns out later this afternoon.

Last night I did a pork roast with a little bit of Monteal Steak seasoning on it and smoked it for 2.5 hours at 275. It was very tasty and moist.

didnt get the temps up high enuf 'n got food poison'n???...
a fire maybe???....
or maybe a a trans plant texan smelled it from 2 miles down the road 'n stoped bye....
'n linch'd 'em for put'n to much gunk on it!!!!...

I use a paprika based rub. Paprika gives the meet a good taste and the coloring is beautiful.

Sorry for keeping you waiting guys. It was moist and very tasty. Infact i brought some of it into work and my coworkers thought it was so tasty they decided to fund a have tommy make a brisket fund. I smoked a 12lb brisket and a 9 lb brisket at 180 degrees for 22hrs. Needless to say there were no left overs. Man those guys can eat. Sorry for the delay again had some internet trouble at the house and finally got it fixed.

P.S. if your going to do a lot of it and cook for people other than family
ya might study up on safe food handling maybe even take a class..
I.E. food handlers class from your local health dept
ther're pretty cheap usualy only a couple hours and lottsa info
