Any trout fishers in Spokane?

hello, i'm new to fishing WA. grew up in MI. and never realy fished trout. i'm looking for any tips, tricks or nacks you might want to share. what are some good lakes, strems or rivers around the area? what tackle do you use? and whats a wedding ring? if i tied a lure or some bait to my "wedding ring" my wife would kill me . also i don't have a boat yet eather so i am a bank fisher at the moment. any help would be great, thank you

I guess for starters, go to this page and click on the lake reports. There are many to choose from in the Spokane area. Read the reports and it will give you a better idea of what to use and when is the best time.

Go to Cabelas.com and search Wedding Ring - they're a sort of inline spinner with graduated-looking like beads with a shiny ring in the middle w/ fake crystals and a blade of sorts and one to two hooks. I suppose you bait it with a worm and troll it. If you're gonna bank fish, you'll probably just want to rig a slip bobber with a worm, in-line spinner like mepps, aglia, etc or fly fish.

I suggest buying either the Washington State Fishing Guide by Terry Sheely or Washington Fishing by Terry Rudnick. Both are available at Amazon.com or at your local bookstore or sporting goods stores.

Fish Lake by Cheney and West Medical Lake by the town of Medical Lake offer good public access bank fishing.

ALWAYS, ALWAYS get a FREE copy of the WA Fishing Regs. and read them prior to fishing a specific water. For example, the fishing rules for Medical Lake and West Medical Lake are entirely different. In general WA manages its fisheries in a lake specific/river specific manner.

Thanks guy's, thats all good info. i picked up a regs book when i got my licence, i have to say WA is way diferent than MI were i come from. i just picked up a 10' jon boat to " flat bottom and square nose". just need to pick up some oars and a small motor for it and i'll be on the water. i'll be checking those lakes out T-bone also i hear williams by "tree 11" is good to. any thoughts? thanks Jay K i'll be checking cabelas out to for them, maybe i'll just head over there i don't live to far from there. only problem is usualy when i go there i get in trouble.... :0)

get some panther martins. the gold blade with yellow spots in good and so the rainbow hollowgraphic one. get a bunch of them they all work!

You can buy the wedding ring spinner at most sporting goods stores. I like the "Mack's" series. Add a piece of worm and maybe a little weight and troll it. Works very well! You might also do some casting from shore with a Warden’s Rooster Tail spinner. I like the green one. You can also troll it behind a small flasher or a Mack's Flash Lite which is an ultra light version of pop gear. I alsu use the Dick Nite spoons trolling a lot. See pics below.

Williams is a great lake for trout from a boat. If you stop by the White Elephant on Sprague, John Kallis the Fishing Dept. Manager is a great source for fishing info. At Wholesale Sports (the former Sportsman's Warehouse) John Norisota or Wade Lawson can advise you as well.

I have been away from the Spokane area now for a year, but my favorite lake their is Fish Lake. Great for Tiger Trout. From the banks I had the most luck walking through th epark and sitting in the rocks far down on the left. I will be back in Spokane for work next month and that is where I will be one of the evenings. Good luck and welcome to Washington State.

thanks you, i'll be checking fish lake out to, this week end i think the wife and i are going to hit newman lake. i hear alot about the tiger muskie there. i wouldent mind pulling one of them in just for the fun of the fight. thanks again.

I just found your post today. I grew up here and was gone for about 15 years. Since being back I have been hitting the old family hot spots but I have expanded my range a little bit. I like Williams and Badger in the early part of the season before the water warms up and the toys come out. Trolling with Wedding Rings has been very productive since my childhood. We used to cover the hook with a worm but I have found that a small piece of Berkley Nightcrawler works even better.

I have hit Rock Lake a couple times. It is about 15 miles farther south than Badger and Williams and can be a hazardous lake. The fishing is exellent with 5lb rainbows and browns being the norm. There are rock spires in the lake although I have only seen them along the Southern shores. I have found a fairly safe run that has been productive. The wind can get pretty crazy out here too. The lake has a nasty reputation but the fishing is the best as far as the small local lakes go.

My latest favorite is Roosevelt. We are finally starting to catch fish pretty regularly although we have yet to catch a full limit in a day. I just installed a set of downriggers on the boat and they help. I want to find the Kokanee out there.

I try to get out every weekend but sometimes it is tough with a 9 month old and a 4 year old. We have never been skunked and I have hit several of the smaller lakes around town. If you have any questions, I would be glad to try and help you out. I know this is an older post but hey fishing is an ongoing synthetis isn't it.
