evening bite vs morning bite on Lake Washington?

Post by bpm2000 » Fri Aug 10, 2007 11:53 am

In my experience I have found the evening bite on Lk Wa to completely suck compared to the morning bite...
This really sucks cuz I like to hit the lake for an hour or two after work sometimes, but getting my butt up early to hit the lake is a lot of work for me #-o (but i still do it sometimes).

Is anyone else experiencing this? My theory is that they are all unsettled with boaters, etc from during the day all day, but after they have the whole night to calm back down the morning bite is better... Plus all my bigger fish have come in the morning/afternoon on WA/Union. I bet if I had a boat things might be different but any takes on this?

thx!

My theory is that bass feed at night during this time of the year and they sick around the shallows for that morning feed before resting during high sunlight hours of the day .HMMM just a thought not fact !!! BBD :-k

Well I have only fished it in the morning so I can't give an acurate judgement but so far the morning is good! I was staying away from these lakes because of the size but I think I'm gonna give it a go in my pontoon real soon especially after the one I caught the other morning. There were alot of spots I wanted to hit but couldn't cause I was shore fishing. I will give a shot in the next couple of weeks. I have off on Tuesdays so I will do an all day trip from morning till evening. Fishing around the UW on both WA and Union.:thumright

early on in the year i really don't think time of day matters much, but during the summer the morning bite is much better then the evening. and i agree with BBD about the feeding at night thing, one of these days i gotta try night fishing out there...

this happens on most lakes though, not just washington.

yea i hear ya - i its just on other lakes I have been able to produce at least a semi-decent evening bite in conjunction to a morning bite, but on the big lake I cant get much in the evenings at all.

I've had decent evening bites on Washington if it's overcast or raining, of course there's less boat traffic as well. Mornings are still the best time to go

Yeah, I heard the night bite is pretty good at Washington, I want to go one of these night. It can be a little dangerous, I heard someone hit a buoy going 34 mph.

Of course it would be foolish for me to characterize the whole lake, esp one as huge as washington, based on the limited areas that I target.

The places I fish usually are gravel flats w/ shelves and dropoffs next to them. I figured as night approached the fish around there might want to head shallow and feed up but i am thinking that might happen later than im willing to stay out.

Last year when I fished Union more there was nearly always a hot bite that started in the evening, right before sundown especially.

Kzoo and skeeter let me know when you guys are going. Maybe we can meet down there. I will have to go buy a light for the boat. I don't think mine has any lights on it at all. LOL I am off work but 5:30 Tue-Fri and 4:00 saturdays. Sunday and Monday I have off.

Smallmouth fishing in the ship canal only works well for me after 7pm through dark. Morning and middle of the day is usually terrible fishing, lucky to get a hit, but late evening is the "hot bite"

I had a chance to hit Lake WA and Union in the evening last week. I was on the ship canal for Union and by the Arboretum for WA. There is a heck of a lot of boat traffic on both lakes. I did manage to get a couple of small mouth on both lakes. I think the morning is a little better and a bit more quiet.

yea the canals are a madhouse in the evenings, esp if the weather is nice. some a$$hat took a bunch of my line driving his boat way too close to a couple of us fishing. I hope he enjoys cutting off 100+yds of fireline off his boat.

Cant wait for the weather to cool down, fall bite to start. fish=shallow and willing, people=gone!

I second that. All these douchelips that have to buzz up and down the sides of the lake getting super close to people fishing.
