I am so glad that I am not a commercial crabber. Besides now I'm too old and fat to start.

I worked in Dutch Harbor doing refrigeration repair work and have actually been on almost all the boats on the show.
I was on the Northwestern when Sig Hansens father was the Capitan and Sig worked the deck. Showing my age.
Most of the crab boats work as Salmon tenders in the summer and have refrigerated sea water systems onboard and that is what I use to repair, nothing like crabbing in the Bering Sea in the winter, been out on boats then too and it's UGLY.

Sweet, you should start a thread on this story. I guess I'm that big of a dork when it comes to the show.

I have never crabbed in the Bering, but I worked as a processor on a trawler. We got plenty of crab in the nets, but couldn't keep them. Same waters, same hours, different target species. Hardest work of my life, much harder than purse-seining for salmon was. Also one of the best experiences of my life.

I love to watch this show. It brings back a lot of memories. I've never experienced being tired like the kind of tired fishing the Bering will make you.
