I tend to believe the moral and social decay of the United States began during the "Hippie" revolution of the 1960's. Everything was peachy before that. Why can't it come back?

Everywhere we even had what they called a (head area) just across from the school where the ( Heads) smoked cigs and herb and at times alarming rates and a host of more drugs.
The schools, cops knew these areas were there and did little it was outside the class rooms and there thinking?#-o
It also created little revenue???? Go Figure lol

I was not a regular Class A student/nurd.
I was not a head/drug hero.
I did not hang with the jocks even though I was one.
I was a lead wolf and was always thinking the next fish the next hunt or the next girl friend again choices and not saying mine were correct ones as well

LSD- was like bubble gum then came the white powder Coke:-$ I lost many friends to that one it shocked the West and East coast for years and still does.

I went to hundreds of high end Sports parties where Coke was lined up on plates like the dinner plates that was coming and many top Sonics and heros shared in the process again these were choices made by each and all.

Like a Swede It was my game in the hot-tubs at these events making other 2 legged choices not the drugs but ever lasting as well:colors:

The problem lays is some have the addictive code and gene just waiting to grab on and take hold.
Funny but not really is all the Drunks who are drunks period and think fishing and hunting comes with drinking and it is a brotherhood and one of the main resources before the game begins but remember being a drunk is a process that is done and excepted until it kills a family member or friend and if you drink in a boat and are the (Captain) you are a fool and moron:-$ .

I just read of late in less then 18 months in the USA alone more folks are killed by drunk drivers then the entire VietScam war pretty humbling numbers ???

The ability always comes back to the PARENTS, home, faith, family and supporting networks of friends and the reflections they add to the entire package and mold.

Was the kid involved daily and busy, sports, church, family outings, grades and have a life past grade 2 of building the world accountability or were the teachers, friends, sports figures his and her guidelines?

Even if all goes well some programs and some kids will fall even with great love and support the world we now live is full of real bad choices I can say feeding any kid with the great outdoors as at least a choice and all the gifts it gives it will give them a better choice and chance in the life bank of making them.

To all Parents young and old be your (Own Kids Hero's):-$ fight for them about them and tell them you love them daily and give them some tools to finish/accountability is on both sides of the street and coin and if you have made them a choice be a hero for a kid= God Bless you.

Your blood or not they need you all and being a fat chub behind a PC, computer game or big screen is not one of those choices.
A family movie is great making it the only choice pretty weak

Lead by example take the time even if you are burned out and tired you are the best combination a kid has and not one will ever be loved by the parents love like you can supply if you have a soul.

Hit the gym with them go to there games and events.
Sit down at dinner and talk over in general the days events and future days coming:compress:

I have had many youth groups and programs lost many kids to choices most were kids who choose drugs and came from one parent families .
These buffered there game and not feeling loved, vauled or important or heard

We saved many lost many but it was always a choice and without a life work=bench or imprint of caring and sharing and giving many we never had a chance going in.

Well, if we look at all the things that occurred during the 1960's, I personally think it was the darkest decade in US history (socially speaking, of course). The 60's brought many new destructive elements out that have never been seen before. Illicit use of "hardcore" narcotics (amphedamines, cocaine, LSD, PCP, etc.), "Free Love" and the explosion of STD's all across the country. It was also the beginning of widespread "communal" living. The Anti-Conservative values, going against the fabric of the country and the ideals of the Far-Left Liberals/Green Peace types we know today were born during this period. Also, "draft dodging" was a much more common practice at this time aswell, as was the whole "rebel" movment, the act of rebelling against parents and those in authority. It all seemed to go downhill to the present state we are in now.

You would have a leg to stand on with marijuana and LSD if it were somehow tied to a crime other than its own distribution.

Being that it was one of only two other drafts during a conflict, and one where popular sentiment was at an all time low, it was to be expected. Many of my relatives served, a couple went to Canada. I have heard both sides of the story.

I don't know how much of where we are today can be fingered by the 60's. Id definitely agree that in the 1960's the makeup of the government changed, because we took the democrats out of the south. Something about segregation and Christian morals becoming unified seemed to run those with progressive beliefs out of the area.

Very, very interesting read here. I believe many folks touched on some very important points. It's a combination of all the factors listed here, and RwR makes one of the best points -- that things haved changed, and they always have changed. We naturally resist change, but with it comes new life. Marc makes one of the better points, too, in his argument that centers on entitlement. The drift being that our generation wants immediate satisfaction (results) and will not wait. That will have to change, and I believe you will see a large shift in the jobs in America. The once blue colar jobs that were not as favored in the past will not only become desirable, but in major demand. The white collar jobs will still exist, but they will decline over the years. It will be surely good to know how to operate a tractor and use a fishing rod. For my part, it's not one thing that has changed America, but rather number of factors...Technology specifically can be one such factor that has changed America and has even allowed for the use of the Internet and everything good and bad that goes along with that :thumright
