Reminder: Olympic Peninsula Fly Fishing Show

The all new Olympic Peninsula Fly Fishing Show, a show designed and produced by fly fishermen for fly fishermen, will be held April 9 and 10 at the Boys and Girls Club in Sequim. Show hours are 11;00 to 6:00 on Saturday and 10:00 to 4:00 on Sunday. The show has three components: exhibitors, seminars, and fly tiers, and is interstate and international in it's scope. This is the only fly fishing show west of the Cascades in Washington. As such it has attracted exhibitors from Oregon and Idaho as well as some of Washington's premier manufacturers of fly fishing gear. Attendees can see and test cast the absolute cutting edge in fly rods, try the comfort of the best in travel trailers, sit in the newest designs in drift boats, kayaks and pontoon boats, (would you believe a drift boat with doors), browse the latest books on fly fishing, talk to the best fishing guides in the area, and completely outfit for the sport from our shops and suppliers.

The show really shines with it's schedule of seminars specific to fly fishing. Our star presenter is world renown Skip Morris author of more books and magazine articles than this writer can count. Skip will speak on nymph fishing on Saturday and on dry fly fishing, catching sea run cutthroats and creek fishing on Sunday. Wild life photographer Ken Campbell will spend an hour helping us improve our photography techniques. Preston Singletary, noted fishing author, will speak on stream entomology. Leland Miyawaki, originator of the Miyawaki Popper, will tell us how to use this fly to catch coho salmon and sea run cutthroats. Nationally known fly casting instructor Don Simenson will not only teach single handed spey casting but will also offer private casting coaching to any who want it at no charge. And there will be seminars on beginning fly fishing and lake fishing.

The icing on the cake is the selection of nationally and internationally famous fly tiers who have volunteered their time to demonstrate the ultimate in the tiers skills. Harry Lemire will tie the most complex salmon flies without using a vise. He holds the hook in his fingers while applying the many layers of materials needed to produce a classicsalmon fly. Karen Royer and British Columbia resident Lora Bernard will both tie flies so realistic you'll want to step on them. But don't! One of Karen's rrecently brought $300 at auction. These are just three of the well known and not so well known tiers are glad to show you how the craft is practiced.

The show has been generously supported by the fly fishing industry so there are over $1,500 in door prizes. They will be raffled of at various times on both days. Admission is $10 and gets you a ticket for the door prizes. See the show's website at olympicpeninsulaflyfishingshow.com.

Sounds like a great show. If I were on the west side I'd take it in. Skip Morris is an excellent speaker and takes the time to visit with you. Very nice gentleman.

For those of you that have never met Karen Royer you will find she is intelligent, talented, great sense of humor, and full of useful information that she is more than willing to share. I always enjoy our conversations. Do yourself a favor and stop by and say hey to her.
