I don't know about the fishing but the camping is interesting.
Semis coming down the big hill all night long can be very loud and noisy. Then there is the trains across the river and don't forget all the barge traffic at the bridge!
Did I mention the wind?
It is very well maintained camp ground with showers, picnic tables, etc.. I've forgotten the overnight fee but it wasn't to bad.
Great location with easy access to the river and lots of non-water related activates.
Hope this helps.

I have camped there several times and always have a fishing pole. I have fished from the shoreline of the park and caught several nice smallmouth bass. I have also fished a small lake just west of the park and caught trout on small inline spinners. Don't know if that lake has a name or not. Great camping spot.

I was there just recently.
Caught a 19 inch smallie, and saw a pretty nice sized sturgeon caught from shore.
I caught 8 smallies, biggest was 19, smallest was 9.

It's a nice big park. Across the river is Biggs Junction, in case you need to get groceries or gas. Walleye can be very good below John Day. Rock Creek is within 10 or so miles for easy shore fishing as well. Can get extremely hot in the summer.
