Squidding 2010

Post by daniesea » Fri Nov 13, 2009 6:05 pm

Hi everyone, I know there was a thread about this already, but that was about a month ago. I'm just wondering if anyone has gone out squidding yet? It seems alittle slow this year.

man i bought 5 squid jigs just for this season...opened my tackle box up and found all 5 of them completely rusted up! apparently after squidding over at Pier 86 with no success, i completely forgot to rinse the jigs off.

anyway, im holding off until December for squidding.

A coworker of mine who lives down by redondo says people have been catching squid in good numbers since October.

yeah redondo and des moines marina is where I usually go. Ive not gone this year yet. Weve talked about going but really weve been doing too good fishing to take the time right now.
More fish please!

Thats good to know guys. I was down at the waterfront cruising around, and didn't even see a single soul out there squidding. I haven't gotten a chance to head down south yet. I should go down there sometimes. Yea, I have some rusted squid jigs too, so I will need to buy new ones too.

I might try it out tonight over here in Bremerton. One of my friends went last week and caught some. There's a dock here that no one squids at but there's bunch of squid year round at it.

Well I went out that night and it was crap haha. Only caught 1 squid and my friends caught none, I forgot to check the tides and it was lowtide it looked like. From the dock I was squidding at it's not very good at lowtide because it's only like 6 feet deep when it's lowtide. Dakanati I don't squid much but since you live in Belfair you might want to try out Waterman's Front Pier in Port Orchard. I remember when I was younger there used to be a bunch of people that would go squidding over there, not sure how it is now but it used to be pretty good back then. Pretty much all you need is your squid jig and a light pole and try varying depths, or starting from the bottom and jigging up if you can't see them on the top of the water. If there's not much light at the dock bring your own light to lower it to the water.

Anyone out squidding? Im tempted to get my fishing fix late night, on the days I work.

Ive never fished for squid , ive read about the basics online, but any old hands handing out tips? I'm close to the Mukilteo area now, and edmonds isnt that far away, so Either one of those areas off the piers are available to me. I work in downtown seattle so any pier there might be an option for an after work event.

Anyone even seen any squid this year?

Thanks in advance.

I know my dad used to catch alot of squid over there in Seattle when they would go when their ship was stationed over there, I think it was off one of the docks on the base or where they had the ship at though. Not really sure what area that is though. I'm probably going to try tomorrow night before heading out since the tides will work with me better this week at the pier I squid at.

There used to be a primer on the WDFW site about squiding. At one time they put out a nice pamphlet (which I have around here somewhere). There's a couple old reports from 04 on this site but that's it. (do a search from the "Home" tab).

Downtown Seattle I've gone to the Pier just down from the Grainery, over by Magnolia. If you have a high power flood light bring it. There's electricity (at least there was a couple years ago) and even a small vender booth for squid jigs and hot chocolate. I don't know if it's still open. Quite an interesting, diverse crowd go squiding at the Seattle piers. It can be very productive on a good night. DRESS WARM!!!

My buddy was down at Des Moines a few nights ago. They were catching quite a few, but they were all really small.

I was at the Pier a week ago and they are finally starting to see some... but man are they small. And again few and far in between. Saw bigger schools of them murdering my poor herring when the Silvers were suppose to be killing em than now... oh well. Its cold. I can't find my gloves.... and I don't like the idea of freezing my butt off catching nothing :-({|=

Anyone been to les davis in tacoma lately?
I've been going to Redondo the past few nights and it has been a bit medium-slow although about 5 days ago it was really good.

Went last night and caught about 20 squid in the first hour and 15 minutes. Then the seal came and scared all the squid away for the next hour and a half or so. People were getting squid within the hour and a half few and far between once the seal came into the area.
