Good luck to all who give the derby a go. As I write this Saturday morning, it's been raining steadily since 5 am. Last Saturday it was a zoo at the Everett Launch and took 50 minutes just to get the boat in the water. The launch line extended out of the marina and down Marine Drive about 4 blocks in both directions.

Fishing was fairly good yesterday (Friday September 18th) for silvers. We took 3 silvers and 2 pinks but they weren't jumping in the boat by any means.

I'm looking forward to some reports following the derby. At least I hope some reports are posted. I have noticed lately that for the large number of boats fishing the salt there are only a few reports posted by the same few members which is a bummer. I find it hard to believe that with several hundred boats fishing the salt throughout these last 3 weekends that none of the fishermen and women on them are WALakes members or guests who could submit a report.

My son and I did go out this morning and fish the derby. Needless to say we were soaked for a while. My 20 ft North River was stolen back in July and after being recovered stripped is still in the shop being put back together, so we fished in my son's 14.5 ft boat. ( no top). Makes us really appreciate my boat. We have fished every day this week and come away with limits. He even caught a 15.5 pounder yesterday. GO FIGURE. Today I got a 7 lb and he caught 2 humpies. Really so compared to all week. Can only hope the weather and fish give us a break tomorrow. Good luck to all us die hards.

So here is my report for the ECD

Saturday- woke up at 4am and of course it's pooring. Not a big deal I was on a 21 foot north river with a canopy. Pulled the boat out of the slip around 5 and was fishing by 520. We started around possesion and worked that area for awhile. Caught a monster fish around 8 am and when it broke the surface of the water I was in aww. It pretty much swam all the way up to the boat, only shook once on the way in. Once we tried to get it in the net it shook and rolled and broke the back hook off. I was pissed to say the least. After that we couldn't buy a bite, other than the 5 dogfish ( all caught on coho killers) and 6 shakers. So we took the boat in right around 4am and called it a day.

Sunday- got o nteh water a little earlier, got a few take down and nothing brought into the boat until around 9am. My line was going off picked it up and the gal started to fight like crazy. The way it was fighting I was serioulsy thinking it was another huge fish like yesterday. Got in up in the boat, it's small 5.86 pounds. Had another one on that was a fighter and it was coming in fighting jsut like the one before but wtih a lot more wieght to it. It swims under the boat and raps it self aroudn the down rigger and shakes the hook free. Got a couple more take down after than but no other brought to into the boat.

So for two days fishing one brought in one fish at 5.86 pounds between the two of use.

I did find out that the Silvers aren't even here in full force yet and I know where they are hanging out :-#

Fished with my brother and a buddy in my brothers boat, on the water Sat by 530 and took our time getting out to fishing areas. Several takedowns and lost fish but we managed to land 3, biggest was 10.6 that my brother placed 186th or something like that. He got a crab pot for it anyway. Back out Sun early again and I had a fish on quick and we thought it would be a much better day, turned out to be a blackmouth so it went back in. Nothing all day till around 1100 when buddys rod gets slammed, and after a great fight, I slipped the net under his fish. our scale read 14.2 and we are stoked. we gave it another hour with more of nothing and headed for the dock. weigh-in was still a short line and his fish was 13 and change, ended up with 19th place for it and got an electric Cannon DR.
had a pretty good time, that was our first time entering a derby so the weigh-in and awards was a new experience.
Cheers
