Swede, let me know if I'm off base on this but I've always used an octopus style hook with the buzz bombs. I never really saw a need to go to a siwash style hook. Also, I put a bead in front of the bumper to help the thing spin more freely.

Go with siwashes for lures, octupus' for bait. The buzz bomb and bumper sit better on a siwashe's eye than an octupus's eye.
Also, sickle siwashes, you'll never go back.
Pinch barbs fish on!

It will depend on where you are fishing. If your talking about marine areas 5-13, you are required to use barbless hooks for all fish all the time except when jigging for forage fish (smelt, herring, etc.). Also, if you are waters covered under selective gear rules, barbless is mandatory for all gear.

Upsize your hooks. All my lures for salmon in the salt are atleast 1/0. All the way up to 4/0 siwashes/octupus's.

Should I use an O ring with the buzz bomb setup since the siwash hook has an open eye that needs to be closed? So the line won't slip out.

Your safest bet is to obtain a copy of the regs. Better to trust that publication than someone's commentary here if you are the would be recipient of a ticket. I can see it now.. "Officer, but Islandbass said it was legal to fish with a treble in saltwater. See, I have a copy of his post."
