Considered the premier saltwater fish of the Northwest, let's hear how many of you have caught what species and how big they were:
Fortunately I've been blessed to be able to catch all 5 and a steelhead
King: 42lbs Sitka AK
Silver: 17 lbs Queen Charlotte Islands BC
Pink: 8lber Area 9 Puget Sound
Sockeye: 9 lber caught in Lake Washington last year using the dodger/red hooks combo
Chum: Skykomish river 2007..
Let's unroll the carpet and see who's caught what species, where (if you wanna give up your spot), on what lure/setup (if you feel like sharing that as well!), and the biggest fish!

Chinook- 33 pounds-- bouy 10 (area 1, mouth of Columbia)
Coho- roughly 10 pounds-- Toutle River
Chum- 8 pounds-- Hoodscanal
Steelhead- 6 pounds-- Cowlitz River
Sockeye- have never caught one

The steelhead and coho were taken on corkies (the coho's was pink, I don't recall the steelie's), the king was caught on a plug cut herring (trolling), the chum was caught on a whole herring under a bobber from shore.

Only been fishing for Salmon once, with my fathe in-law. We drove about 3.5 hours north from Tacoma and we were fishing out in the ocean. We caught 4 salmon that the smallest was 12lbs and the biggest was 19 lbs 5 oz. IT was a great day and fun. I think the might have been steel heads but not sure. First time ever seeing Salmon in real life, I will find out and let you all know.

I'm not a very experienced salmon angler, but I have had the opportunity a few times with those in the know.
Chinook - 26lbs.
Coho - 12lbs.
Both were caught at Bouy 10 on the same trip. Guide Dale Damron.

Sorry to break this too you buddy, but Steelhead are part of the Trout Family. If they were Steelhead though, a 19.5 would be a once in a life time fish! Steelhead record for WA, is some where in the 32-35 rage or something according to this Website that gave the only Fishing reports from Washington that I could find.

If that was a steelhead, then Congrats to you my friend, because that is one of my dreams. Is to someday catch a Steelhead that big or bigger.

The other day me and my dad where fishing our favorite secret river and saw about a 3 ft long stellie. Couldn't entice the bite but wow that was a fish of a lifetime. But my dad's freind has a 24.4lber from the same river mounted on the wall, and way back in the day before the BOLT decision he landed a 30lb spawned out steelie. We never counted spawners as stellie since he used to be a catch and keep fisherman so he never thought there was anything special about it.

Was this caught before the invention of the plain red hooks behind a dodger setup?
Or do you still run them now?

To Sam K. Yes, that fish was caught before sockeye anglers starting using bare red hooks. The date on that fish was 07-28-1983. It was actually 10 pounds and 6 ounces and 30 1/2 inches long. Quite a bit larger than the average sockeye. I was in error on my biggest steelhead on that report -- I caught a 16 pounder on a crawfish crankbait while smallmouth bass fishing just past the Cedar River in Lake Washington.

It was a pleasant surprise. I was fishing with my son and because we were bass fishing we had no net. It took almost an hour to tire the fish enough so my son could grab it by the gill plates and put it into the canoe. It was a long time ago but I think it was a legal fish to keep. At least I hope it was.

Edmonds,
You will like Chum fishing more then pinks. They are atleast a few pounds bigger and still have a very strong run into many of the area's rivers...
