got a lamiglas redline rod
got a lamiglas redline rod
well, since my berkley air snapped at the ferrule today on a cast with a 3/8 oz jig i took it back and saw they had some of those sweet looking redline rods from lami out on the floor, so i chose to pay the difference and pick the redline up instead, cant wait to try it out! feels muuuch better than the x11's: its lighter and has a faster, crisper action. its no SI or xmg50 but it still feels like a great mid price rod(got mine for $160), the carbon fiber handle is a nice touch also, anyone have any reviews for this rod yet?

Brand new rods! Ithink youll be one of the first to give us a review of the rod. Cool that you found one already!
Re: got a lamiglas redline rod
feels good so far, except one little nuisance, once i put the top half on it sometimes gets near impossible to separate the two ferrules, luckily i have my old leather golf gloves that had enough grip to twist apart the halves, know of any good tricks to prevent this?

Again, on oil on graphite ferrules the oils create acid that attacks the resin. Don't do it. Just put the rod together gently. Give it a little twist when taking it apart. Sounds to me like you got one that's a really good fit.

how about candle wax? i just rubbed some candle wax on the ferrule and it seems to have fixed the problem, but in the long run is it bad for the rod at all?

Re: got a lamiglas redline rod
That is what most of the manufacture's are recommending, with the caveat "If you really need to." I've never felt the need to use a lube on any graphite ferrule (graphite is a fine lube it's self), push it in lightly and give a final twist. Reverse to take it apart. I think a lot of people just push the parts together much too hard.fishenfreak wrote:No its not. Thats exactly what your suppose to do. Goon, you're embarking on a new world here. You're breaking into the fine and or precision tool world now. That's not an Ugly Stick you have there. Enjoy the ....... out of it!!!!!
