I know that Silver lake in Snohomish has Crawfish. But I don't think I'd want to eat those ones.fishnislife wrote:I'm looking for a list, or lakes that you personally know of that have crawfish in them. I can't find anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Pine Lake in King County has Louisiana crawfish, and Sammamish has some nice ones too.
RE:the fresh-water lobsterette - crawfish lakes *UPDATE*
life(r)- on 6-11-07 I personally pulled up a couple of crawdad traps in lake washington to see how the fishing was and was completely astonished not only at the quantity but the size of the "dads' they had in there. With the size of the traps i don't believe they were catching them for bait, but they were probably dinner. With the alloy content and pollution in Lake Washington i wouldn't eat them! Next best place I've seen them is the Columbia River any given rock.fishnislife wrote:I'm looking for a list, or lakes that you personally know of that have crawfish in them.

I'm not aware of a resource out there that is available to anglers. Just have to piece it together from guys sharing the info.
RE:the fresh-water lobsterette - crawfish lakes *UPDATE*
Well since i know youre from the area, I know for sure that Kitsap Lake has crawfish in them. I remember a bass we caught last year that was 5-6lbs, it had a crawfish halfway down its throat.

RE:the fresh-water lobsterette - crawfish lakes *UPDATE*
I wouldn't worry about the dad's in Lake WA unless your catching them from the pilings to the airport. Dad's are predatory, they catch little fish and other things they can grab swimming by. They don't sit on the bottom eatting dirt. Like anything in the lake they like to chew on a good carcass or two. I kept a number of them in a fish tank with a big Oscar and it was a race to food when it got dropped in, tough little buggers.
I don't think I'd eat buckets of them on a regular basis but that seems to be the way with all fish except the nice little hatchery beauties.

RE:the fresh-water lobsterette - crawfish lakes *UPDATE*
Well it appears this is the beginning of a great list that we could all put together (since one does not exist). I will continue to update it and hopefully sometime in the near future this could be a list that everyone could look back on and find a lake that has craws in it. Maybe even Mike and Aaron could add it somewhere around the site for others to pull information from once we get an exstensive list compiled.
Lets keep it going.
Maybe the next time you guys are out at a lake ask around and see if anyone knows if that perticular lake has crawfish in it.
jbball50, ya I know Kitsap definitely has them in there. Do you know of any others around here that has craws as well?

Does Crawfish Lake in Okanagon County have them in it? That would be a real extreme guess.

RE:the fresh-water lobsterette - crawfish lakes *UPDATE*
I would hazard a guess as to say most lakes with moving water do. Best spots would be where streams come in (sound familliar?). I've even encountered them in many alpine lakes. I can't hike anymore so it's not very recient info. We used to catch them by putting out a can of cat food with holes poked in it, around mid afternoon. Wait till sunset, wade out to the can and shine a flashlight on them and pick'em up. Tie a string on the can as they'll try and drag it out to deeper water.

What about Rivers? Snohomish, Samamish, etc...
I know that in Utah, we'd hit the rivers with bait and within 30 minutes we'd pull up a bunch.
EDIT: Duh, read the post above.

RE:the fresh-water lobsterette - crawfish lakes *UPDATE*
The only crawfish I have caught has been on the Snake River. I spent a vacation at Boyer Park (just west of Pullman). While fishing off of a dock with worms (and having no luck), I began pulling up crawdads that had attached themselves to the worm on my hook. Between my father and I we reeled in quite a few and lost some as well, so I know they are in there. Also, I was rather impressed with the size! They seemed bigger than the other crawfish I had previously seen. That's all the use I can be on this topic.

I know a couple divers who catch and eat them out of Lake Washington. They say there are tons them - said they have seen spots where it looked like the bottom was alive, just covered in them.
I have seen em caught out of Ballinger and working on a fish carcass off the dock at Martha (Alderwood Mall).

I fish not because I regard fishing as being terribly important, but because I suspect that so many of the other concerns of men are equally unimportant, and not nearly so much fun. ~ John Volker
RE:the fresh-water lobsterette - crawfish lakes *UPDATE*
any lake that has a rocky bottom or areas that are rocky have craws here on the east side. all the lakes in the quincy to potholes includeing the wasteways, the columbia and all of its tribs such as the yakima, wenatchee, entiat, naches, klickitat, on and on. there is a guy that was selling them at the farmers market last year in yakima. these were probably the biggest i've seen any where,he said he gets them around goldendale (hint) last week i was snorkling on evergreen res. caught 10 that i used to handfeed some bluegill and a nice lrgm bass. <')//<
